Hi Jeff,

I haven't used it but I know that ChemDry use (or may be used to use) an impregnating protector like this (as opposed to a coating protector).  Evil smelling stuff, looked blue in the bottle but brown in a jug and with a certain viscosity (they did another protector that was as thick as treacle).

Here's the point: it did work as a protector and was easy to apply as it went into the portable (clean and protect in one action).  However, it was expensive (per gallon) anyway, a lot had to be use per tank and on dirty carpets it was being wasted when multiple passes were needed.  Interested that amtech recommend its use in CFR RECYCLING equipment - no waste.
