Is there any point canvassing over the winter? ie from now on.
Does anyone notice less people saying yes as we get closer to xmas - the come back January brigade?

Does anyone notice less people saying yes as we get closer to xmas - the come back January brigade?
you will get loads saying yes before xmas, just to get a one off clean, some will stay but this is defo the worst time for one-off cleans in the year. January febuary are the worst IMO months of the year to canvass, christmas bills come in and people realise they have over spent.

Other half says that now till Christmas is a good time to build the round up. Week before Christmas they all panic because they don't want their family to think they are dirty. Ideal time to push for cleaning insides as well. If it's a one off just increase the prices.
Also good time for gutter cleans.
Now that kids are back at school and holiday over then now's the time to get going. Alan thinks that August is the worst month as they are all on holiday.
Sure you get fewer takers Jan/Feb but windows get horribly dirty and thats when some window cleaners have packed it in because they can't deal with the cold.
In other words - go for it ;D

Thanks for that advice, Im still wrestling with my conscience ie quitting a job at a time like this so Im going to canvass in my spare time and clean at weekends and see how it goes. Thanks again

Alan did that for 6 years before he went full time. Do understand your situation, you are giving up 'security', but actually being employed isn't security because they can give you the shove whenever they feel like it but when you've got a decent round then you lose one customer you get another one and move on!
Alan actually started full time in August after falling out with the boss and although the first 6 months is hard I think that's true whenever you start.

Now is an excellent time to canvass - we really built the business up canvassing from end of sept to december, better results than in the summer as all the pt. timers given up for the winter and those taking on a windy usually last all year rather than for the summer months.
Jan can be quiet but feb onwards to about April seem pretty good

so is alan full time for 1 month or 20 years :-\ telling others to quit there job im a little confused, can I ask what part you play in window cleaning in your gardening business not being funny just asking as I am a little baffled by some comments posted.?

Stan - never canvass in the dark - there is plenty of time during the day and w/ends
