Title: Look at this
Post by: scud on September 06, 2010, 03:30:31 pm
I don't know if this is in the right place, but it tugged at my heart strings, and I helped the bloke out as he is a fellow window cleaner, have also posted it onto a couple of other forums to see if people will help him.

Perhaps we should all show him some compassion and help him out and pass it onto other non-window cleaners?

http://adesperateman.yolasite.com/

I have sent him a tenner, it's not alot for me to afford, but perhaps it will make a difference to him and his family.

After all, karma is a funny thing!

Looks like it works though  :-\

where is the evidence of a scam?

He is not asking for any details from you.

For the sake of a quid or two, you may be helping a genuine case, who knows?

I may be a bit knaive, but atleast my consceince is clear that I haven't "crossed the street to avoid" what may just be a genuine case.

I think I might setup something similar if it works that easily!

Where is the guy from? PayPal defaults to US Dollars when you click on his donate button - Not that I was going to donate anything!

Yes a sad story, if it is true. But thats the problem, there are so many scam artists out there, unless you knew this man personally you couldn't tell if he is telling the truth or not.
If he is in the situation he says he is in I would advise him to go to Citizens Advice about his debt problems. Also if he is not working as he says, he will still be getting child benefit and housing benefit etc.
So although he may not have any expendable income, by the sound of it he still has a roof over his head and some food on the table.
I reckon its a scam anyway.

Scud can I have a tenner!

I'm sure he would be entitled a whole host of benefits, he mentioned he would be able to work while the girls are at school his window cleaning round would be perfect for this.

This desperate man isn't to proud to ask for charity but didn't think to ask for a job!

Definatly a scam. No picture of him or his family, no detail of his area, which I doubt is in the UK as he calls his wedding ring a 'wedding band'.

Youv'e been had.

I am actually feeling a bit sorry for Scud right now, he thought he was doing a good deed and so he is obviously a nice guy and he has been ripped of for a tenner.

I think this is a reflection on both the character of the man who donated and the man who set up the site.

One is a naive but kind hearted and generous man, the other a cold and calculating scammer,
Unfortunately the world is full of the latter and whilst people want to help they will prosper.
Put it down to experience and forget about it, after all, we all get ripped off daily by many legal scam artists. The government being the biggest.

Many of the window cleaners on here, work through the day while their children are at school and manage quite well to make ends meet and those that need a little extra help can apply for benefits.

Scam through and through.

I am sceptical too.
In a genuine case, the debts could be wiped by filing for voluntary bankruptcy.  He would need to find a few hundred quid to pay the court.  As the house is in negative equity, the official receiver would not have any interest in it.  So the debts could be wiped, negative equity would ensure he stayed in his house (though he would need to pay the mortgage) but this could probably be earned while the kids were at school (childminder for school holidays).  His vehicle would be a tool of his trade so exempt from being taken as would all his other tools.  There would be some tax credits too to help out.  I'm not pretending it would be comfortable or easy to sort out but it is possible.
If it were genuine, I reckon there would be more details.

this struck me as a scam from the first glance.
now i might get struck down in flames but if this was a first post saying" i just bought a great system from (insert company name here)" it would be jumped on but as the post was started by someone who has been here a while its being let go. i hope that scud is just a good man who may have been duped and not adesperateman.  i dont know him so i cant make a judgement. but if it was me i would seperate myself from it on all the forums he posted it on.
