The "how much per hour" threads have caused much "debate".
How about next week jotting down what time you spend window cleaning. E.g. - hours actually cleaning compared with driving between jobs and other stuff.
I will post after each day's work (or non-work) and tell you how many hours I actually do "on the glass".
Anyone else up for it? It could be enlightening.
-
i think most of us average 5-6 hours actually working(sometimes 7 for me!).thats taking half hour off for dinner and a couple of mini breaks/travelling/talking to custies.
i hardly do any travelling as a lot of my round is very compact.

One day in a week I do about 9hours plus other work for 3!
Another day I do about 4hours. All over the place!

I'll try to remember to do that Gold... Sounds like an interesting survey. Would be good too if you did it over a month
-

I could not possibly take part in this as I would be to embarrassed at the hours worked, but I may do it privately :D

think dean taberner does 1000 hrs on the larger glass ;D ;D ;D
-
yeh but does he have a proper break ;D

I was out today from 10.00 am til 3.15 in the afternoon, although in that time I went home (the journey there and back including lunch was 45 mins) so out and about, working, travelling, custard conversations, paperwork at one of the commercials I did took up 4 1/2 hours of my time.
Total time at custards houses was exactly 3 hours.
As a percentage thats exactly 66%

Despite the forecast the rain here in Bristol didn't set in until 3.45 pm.
8.15 - 9.00 Smallish Commercial
9.00 - 9.10 Drive to first estate
9.10 - 12.50 Complete estate - all van moves less than 50 metres.
12.50 - 1.15 Scoff sandwiches and listen to old vine-o banging on about hay bales!
1.15 - 1.30 Drive to two farmhouses (300 metres apart) to clean
2.45 - 3.00 Drive to old peoples home flats
3.00 - 3.45 Clean 4 flats and the entranceways.
Rain set in heavily at 3.45 just as I finished the job.
So 8.15 to 3.45 = 7.5 hours less lunch and driving between jobs = 1 hr 5 minutes so just under 6.5 hours "on the glass" including reeling in, small van moves, writing slips etc.

Gold that is an interesting way to work it out, I just did and out of a short 6 hour day, only 3 3/4 hours were spent on the glass. Today was not a typical day though so I will keep doing it this week, and post the hours worked compared to hours on the glass
-
zilch!had a day off!ill be posting and keeping track of mine the rest of the week though lads!! ;) ;D ;D

I think it's going to be a big fat zero today. It's chucking it down and no sign of it easing. Looks like I will have a tidier flat by the end of the day :)

Me again - went to van this am and water dripping from beneath hosereel. Hose had worn through and was leaking so spliced it and tested it but didn't get "on the glass" 'til 10 am.
Worked through to 1.30pm when a thunderstorm stopped play and then started at 2.20 through 'til 2.50 when I had caught up with all my work. So came home and made sure the repair was sound. So 4 hours "on the glass".
So far this week just under 10 and one half hours on the glass and my earnings are a small fraction over the "industry standard" per hour for wfp window cleaning.
-
930am-4pm.about the same as yesterday!half hour dinner and a few brews.10 mins driving.
mon:none
tue:5 and a half
wed:5 and a half
gorgeous sunny day as well!! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Wednesday's report. All domestic.
Started at 9am and did two big semi's 400m apart.
10.00 driving two miles. Start again 10.10.
10.10 - 12.45
5 properties all within 250m including a new custy. Home for lunch - cheesy oven chips yum - make a long phone call - not back to my next house until 1.45.
1.45 to 4.45 (less 15 mins driving) - on the glass)
So on the glass - just over 6.25 hours.
So far this week:-
Mon 6.5
Tue 4.0
Wed 6.25
16.75 hours at just over "the industry standard" for wfp.
-
Caught up again today and only worked 9.15 til 12.45 less fifteen mins driving and then 1.45 til 3.30 less 15 mins driving and so 4.75 hours today and once again just over the industry wfp standard rate.
Will prolly have tomorrow off. Tho' might do a couple of hours, but will run out of work then.
At the mo' - 21.5 hrs on the glass.
-
worked 945am-445pm.about an hour taken off for dinner/brews/10 mins driving.

If I asked you if you'd go back to ladder work Daz you'd sound like a reformed smoker ;)
-
when I did my business start up course the advisor said that if you plan working 40 hour week then to work the price out for 24 hours, as a percentage you will only average 60% doing what makes you money and reading the results and my own findings that is a pretty accurate predication
-
go back to ladders full time?not a chance!! ;D ;D
im getting my schedule done in 3 and a half days a week with wfp compared to 5 days on the ladders.i reckon ill speed up a bit more to say 3 days a week.im going after a few bigger jobs and enjoying the rest of the time off.im keeping my round bang up to date with ease at the moment(and thats over 300 customers!).
im well happy with the way its going at the moment! ;D ;D ;D
its a part time business now!!plenty of room for better bigger jobs!! ;D ;D

he reckoned it applied to all trades be it window cleaner, joiner, mechanic, plumber and its a handy tool when working out your pricing, as new starts think £10x 40 sounds good but in fact £10x 24 doesn't sound half as attractive, so when I read claims of how much an hour I can understand why people get confused as you dont earn that amount for 40 hours
