Title: Water production costs using RO
Post by: Matthew JN on September 01, 2010, 07:00:22 pm
Hi all,

Just been checking my water production costs for the last 2 months, and am pleasantly surprised unless i am doing the maths wrong.

I've been using between 7 to 8m3 (cubic litres) of water per month, and i am using a 300gpd RO system with an extra 10 inch housing with cartridge of DI resin as a polisher to ensure 000ppm TDS reading. (Without the polisher the water is coming out at between 002ppm and 008ppm depending on the state of the pre-filters.

I have an in-line analogue water flow meter installed before the input of the 300gpd unit.

So the supply is costing me 124.36 pence per cubic litre so last month my 7.369m3 used equates to just £9.16 cost for the month.

The drainage is charged on 92.5% of of the water used so this equates to 6.816325m3 at a cost of 169.80 pence per cubic litre so therefore is costing me £11.57 for the month.

Does this seem to fall in line with others who use a similar amount or have i got all this costing wrong ???

I use more than you though probably not a great deal more.  I pay about £1.70m3 (including drainage) so get it a bit cheaper than you.  Yours is a bit over £20 a month.  Mine works out around £24 - £28 a month so I reckon we are in the same ballpark figure area.  I use a merlin (with waste restrictor) so this may well account for the bit extra I pay.  Merlins can be a bit juicy on waste.  My total usage (including waste) is around 17m3 a month though obviously this fluctuates.
