Been asked to clean a stainless steel panel in an office which I havent seen. How do I clean this?
thanks

Make sure you view it first, chances are it will have been scratched by some previous attempts at cleaning, point these out to the client as you will not get rid of them. Hot soapy water will remove most dirt/grease then find a good quality stainless steel polish to give a good finish.

I use baby wipes :o If its badly scratched brushed stainless the you can use a rubbing block in the direction of the original brush

hi there
clover do a chemical called dazzle, this can be used to clean and polish stainless steel, but will not remove heavy contaminants, therefore clean first with hot detergent mix, and non scratch scourers.
do not be tempted to use the baby oil trick, if you dont polish it all off it becomes sticky and attracts more dirt.

after cleaning it the best thing to spray on it with no smears is WD40. i use it at home on my fridge doors and hob. results are amazing!

All the above are good suggestions but we use Back to Black it is just so easy and gives such good results
Wash panel clean using only the smallest amount of soap and WARM water not hot as it can cause a breakdown of the stainless finish then spray on Back to Black and wipe to a smear free highly polished finish
It can even fill in the smaller of scratches, also great on new work tops

hi there
are you providing the COSHH data sheets and any COSHH risk assessments with wd40 and back to black ?

i've got the wd40 safety data sheet.
is that the wrong thing to have? its from the wd40 website.
before anyone starts having a go at me i mostly use it at home and on a couple of HUGE houses that have lots of stainless stell (i always ask my customers first)

Hi Martin
That seems an unusual question, we do not allow product to be used onsite without prior acceptance by the clients H&S department this obviously means all the correct administration having been verified and accepted

Hi Gordon
it may be an unusual question to you, but we still come across people who havent got their paperwork in order, just a question really as to whether any clients challenge materials that are being used.
wd40 is flammable, and if stored incorrectly in a client premises, and there was say a fire, then questins would be asked.

Hi Martin
Sorry I didn't mean to snap
Why are the storing of goods on site your responsibility ?
It is the responsibility of the client, it is there site and if thtey approve the product to be used on their site and agree to have it stored there he safety becomes their concern not yours.
A different example is PAT testing of portable equipment, now we have a qualified local firm do our testing however before the equipment is allowed onto a clients site they have to test it also so when they accept it it becomes their responsibility you see if our independent firms test is not what meets the clients own requirements fine it becomes their concern.
Only if you were to own the store cupboard at your clients site would you be responsible but that is highly unlikely. Who has the overall responsibility for the health and safety of the site? You no it is the client.
So if you store onsite with eir permission it is their concern

Toilet rolls are flammable but you don't see many fire extinguishers in toilets :o :o :o
