Does anyone know a place to get new carbon brushes for vacs? I rang up Ametch who told me they dont have them and that when the brushes run out, the motors usually need replacing :o
The vac is a Powr-Flite 3 Stage 5.7" - 72611A-C
Any help appriciated.

I keep hearing "its the brushes" "replace them" "check them" so for the down right ignorant ??? what are their function
:-[ answers in english please

Adam i cant be sure but i think these are the chinese ones that Ametch put in the power flite.
Although i have never owned that machine i did buy a cheap chinese motor once and that number you quote rings a bell i think they sale them cheap motors for £50 ON THEIR SITE
And when the soft brushes go they spit like weld lumps onto the armature which kills them
I would speak to them again and ask the question are these the chinese ones in my machine quote your serial number if yes replace them both BUT NOT WITH THOSE CHINESE ONES.
It would be good to hear from others with that machine

Try Brush Systems - they do more than just Lamb-Ametek.

What a brush is and does.
A brush is a device which conducts current between stationary wires and moving parts, most commonly in a rotating shaft. Typical applications include electric motors, alternators and electric generators.

That is the Imperial motor, not the Chinese ones. They do not
sell brushes for them, but the brushes are identical to the Hi-Trak
motors.
Brush systems would not sell me any, as i could not give them a
Hi-Trak part number.

I think c is for chinese, at least these are the cheap ones going for £50 at amtech as Steve said, not imperial ones. I replaced the brushes on my original vac which had done 200 hours and now no problem with it. This vac has done less than that but pretty sure its the brushes, I wouldnt like to buy a new vac when it can be fixed for few pounds.
AJB do you think my vac uses same as Hi-Track motors?
