Title: canvassing bungalows worthwhile?
Post by: mark mann on August 25, 2010, 09:21:59 pm
Hi Guys

I got quite  few roads in my neigbourhood that have bungelows i have got a few bungelows but the success rate when canvassing low, coz many claim they do themselves.

when building your rounds in the early days did you just canvass all houses and bungelows or  focus on the houses to get the get the strike rate up.

would you all canvass the bungelows just the same and can here some feedback on typical charges for trad and wfp on them if you could bearing in mind to flag what area your from.

this must be a common thought for newbies and could be useful to new and old perhaps

Bungalows are always a days work when its windy, tend to be elderly so more loyal...drawbacks a lower price, get caught yapping but most annoying of all is  their custard creams/sports biscuits are well past the sell date. :D

All I'm saying is there's much more productive ways to spend my time. Anyone can clean a bungalow, including the people that live in them.

I'd much rather spend my time canvassing 3 storey town houses.  ;)

Got you, I just mean they are good money for easy work but I hardly canvass any more and if I was I see your point, but as someone else said a lot have elderly in them who can't or wont do them if they can pay someone

To be honest Mark you couldnt do them quicker wfp ive been trad for years and now use wfp as well but i can wip round a bungalow with a small points ladder a lot quicker than dragging a hose round even my trolley would be slower, sometimes trad is better  :) whereabouts are you based?

Hello Mark,
Ive only been wc since i moved to Mersea about 6 years ago, i timed it just right as 2 windys had given up a few months before i started so picked quite a few up, got to meet one of them and is now a mate which helped, i started part time until i had enough to take it seriously and love it now!
How long you been going? you full time?

hi  richard

going knocking on 4 months started building up weekends while in ft work then gave that up a month ago - taken partime job 20hours and continuing to build round  - i forget how many customers got now but i reckon by end of year be full time.

have to say loving it - apart from my everyday pole at the mo - as fixing it weekly at the clamp sleeve which keeps coming unglued (use that epoxy stuff from pure freedom)

Coming back to the OP bungalows are top earners and always canvass for bungalows although the sucess rate is low.
Standard charge for a bungalow £10, time to do it 10 minutes. Go figure.

I agree Vince, one estate i work on i started with one customer but over the last 18 months i have picked up another 10 all close by, the oldies like to watch you behind their curtains for a while to make sure youre doing a good job before they ask you to do theirs!

Mark, get to b &q and get a Harris pole i swear by them £15 and youre sorted! look on you tube to see how to convert one theyre very good
