Title: buying stolen gear
Post by: darren clarke on August 25, 2010, 05:15:18 pm: if someone one knocked on your door and said i got a slx pole for £40 or a full system for £200, knowing that it was probably nicked, would you buy it and then lock it up better

you can just answer rather than leave a thread.

this is to do with all the thefts as some one has to be buying it

Post by: SherwoodCleaningSe on August 25, 2010, 05:41:46 pm: Not only is it morally wrong but if the police caught up with you they can seize the property and return it to it's rightful owner, meaning that the buyer is out of pocket and the thief now has your cash. You could even get charged with handling stolen goods. A much better way of dealing with it would be to call the police when the person knocks on your door, then you have one less thief on the street.

evry thing was snapon all gone. if i knew it was stolen tell somebody ;)

like someone said its livleyhood - whilst im insured i dont want to pay the excess or the increased premium or the hassle or the inevitable time without a system (tho im covered for that too, but when i read the small print i have to collect replacement vehicle and its in wales hours away) so id be keen the thief would be caught knowing what it means to the victim.

or if some came selling fAgs and booze after Sainsburys or tescos were broken into ?

or what if you found a £20 note in the street ? would you go down the police station and hand it in ?

or if you went to draw out £20 at a cash machine and it gave you £200 by mistake ?

the reason I ask this is because taking the moral high ground when it suites you is one thing but when it doesn't affect you people soon change their morals,

I worked at Sony for nearly 19 years and the amount of times people with so called high morals asked me if I could get any nicked gear was unbelieveable. including a very high ranking bloke in the RAF who asked me on more than one occasion if I could get him any stuff via the back door as he put it.

I bought a trek mountain bike cheap from a bloke in a bookies which was obviously stolen as he was tiny and frame was big. Anyway cut a long story short some scumbag stole it out my garrage few months later so from that id never buy stolen goods again as bellieve it was karma biting me on the bum.

Post by: prestige cleaners on August 25, 2010, 07:10:00 pm: i actually had a "windy" ring me up a couple of yrs ago trying to flog a van and equipment, sounded very dodgy, wouldnt give me his name or company name, i pretended to be interested so i could try and trace the real owners, but he wasnt having any of it. maybe i should have arranged a meet? did feel a bit bad afterwards,

i got the feeling he was leaving/getting sacked and wanted to rip off his employers? or he did actually nick it off the street, i will never know :(

or are they just nicking it and leaving it in there shed, i use to kow builders taht where always been offered stolen gear and they would buy it then mark it as theres

a guy i know does it all the time(not a w/c) , he has a big house, 2 flash motors,huge boat and prides himself he has never bought a drop of diesel as he nicks it all from work. has a top very responsible job but cant stop messing around

now heres me,got very little materially but hey i know which id rather be ,honest joe soap

stolen just for the fact that most wc i know r family men
but wud they do me the same curtisy i think not
i do like to think wc s i know wudnt buy my gear if it was
stolen n wud give me the heads up if they were offered
my said gear etc though boys tbh the only guy i know who wud
surely wud be dean tab as he is one of the boys in blue
lol lol every one else id av to say wud 100% buy lol ;)

So if someone nicked your gear that wouldnt be a problem then? Maybe you could meet them in an alley somewhere and but your gear back? ::)
