I'll 2nd that.
They are waterproof and just the same as wearing normal trainers so light and comfortable as well.

Get yourself down the army surplus shop.
Combat boots about £40.
Threw mine out in Apr, they lasted 8 winters.

like the idea of the hitecs - i actually visited there office in essex this year and they had a glass cabinet with nelson mandellas hi tec trainers that he wore in his last year in prison -authenticated with his signature.
just a token of useless info

I've tried all sorts but have gone back to Dr Martins. Good footware.

Hi there,
I've always used the waiking type boots out of decathlon but last winter I used an old pair of timberland boots and there were superb neve had wet feet even in the snow and ice and my feet smelt either.
I'm wearing reebok boots at the moment because it's summer but I can't wait to get the timbos back on.

I use a pair of work boots without the steel toecaps.
I prefer the suede style ones as I am a bit vain, when they loose there waterproofing I just put my feet in the little plastic bags that you use for pickiong up dog poop, then put my boots on - watewrproof again!

our local builders merchants .robert prices .do water proof boots ( dickies ) £45 local builders recon their ideal for wet weather .

I just use work trainers with steel toe caps and wear them all year round as have alot of commercials that have to have them and they cost £24.99

You can't beat Goretex,.. worth every penny. :)
If cash is tight, these are very good for the price: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390210995476

I got british army goretex boots from ebay. brand new and delivered for £35. So comfortable, warm and waterproof. Had 2 winters so far and still perfect. I've tried all other boots (Hitec/Peter storm etc) but the waterproof only lasts a winter for me

I usually buy a pair of walking boots from Aldi's every 2/3 years - about £25 I think. As mentioned above - waterproof but light as well.
They stay waterproof but the soles' tread wears low after about three years on tarmac.

Karrimor snow boots... Lovely toasty warm feet even in snow. I used to take the dog out wearing these in all weathers as well as working.
Cost about £30 from sports direct
Think I might dig them out and get them in the van. Feet got wet today a little. I hate wet feet !!!

Blooming heck,
just get some normal , steel toe capped boots around £20.. put some thermal socks on and you will be fine.
we dont work in the arctic.....
you will be fine with decent gloves and decent warm workwear.
Apart from last winter we only get the same amount of wet days in winter as we do in summer... and an odd frost bitten morning here and there.
After 10am its fine every day.

yea me too getting fed up with wet feet and wet trainers - gotta get some sorted this weekend or by next.
-
some great advice on here re footwear and a few things to try over time
ive ended up buying some leather rigger boots with fur lining 25 quid as may be having to shell out for a new pole as well.
im rubbing dubbing into them as this should make them more water repellant.

Have been window cleaning 6 yrs. and swear by CATS.Dry feet comfy and ultra safe.BRILL BOOTS. Regards Des.

i absolutely swear by Mercury trainers , this is for ladderwork only. The fabulous grip on slate/pantile or whatever is due to the soft marshmallowey sole (usually mainly a white colour) ,the sole on Mercurys turns up a bit at the toe end too (good feature)
the uppers are not waterproof and they are not very long lasting (about 2 or3 months before the sole cracks across the centre, but they are usually £9-99 so best to buy a few pairs while in the shop. Most cheap shoe shops sell Mercury brand ,impossible to buy a Mercury online ,they have excellent grip on ladder rungs and never need any breaking in like some shoes do

thanks
focuscoleraine , bobby p - and others for feedback on footwear - some real choice
did ladder work in me new rigger boots today and okay but sounds like the mercurys would have been ideal for that part of it.
