What about the dirt and bits from off your roof and gutters do you still filter it somehow?

I have been doing this for a couple of months now ,I have a P3 filter in downpipe of roof and made a deep trap with a drain to try and keep bits down plus some sponge in pipe which I clean regularly.I fill two 100 lbutts then transfer to a 1000l IBC tank with a hozelock pump which only takes a few minutes.I have a TDS of 30 off the roof . I put a washable filter in my RO as there is a few micro bits still getting through ,its a 5 micron filter and so far so good ,the TDS has been at 0ppm for ages now .My tapwater tds is around 270- 300 ish so its bound to make my resin last longer.
My IBC had iced up other day so slightly concerned but all is fine now.Its really nice not to see all RO waste going down drain PLUS I use the rainwater to wash car with Hozelock pump, because of the very low TDS car dries perfect after rinsing so great result.Costs a few quid to set up and bit of messing about but worth it for me.

I have taken some pics of my set up but for some reason it wont upload .
From the P3 filter I have short bit of transparant tube which then goes into my trap of 15mm plastic pipe ,traps about 2ft long ,draint tap fitted at bottom to release crude then via transparant tube to first water butt ,when that fills goes through tube to 2nd , I pump to IVC for storing when there full which doesnt take long at all as its a fair size roof.i put some sponge in pipes work as a rough filter and the P3 filter also has a rough gauze built in which is very easy to wash.
I feed RO from IBC with hozelock water butt pump then booster pump through membranes.I have found first per filter gtes muck quicker so bought re-usable/washable filter (5micron).So far it all seems fine and water bill will come down!! If you send me yer email I can send pics that I m having trouble with putting on here.

I'm quite envious. I live in a flat 12 floors up.  :-[

I should think that collecting rain water like that is a satisfying way of doing things WFP.

Its fast and effective and a back up to my Merlin. Sometimes I can't be bothered to wait for Merlin to do the job so when my tanks are full I use the water from them. The tds is approx 20.

Yes more pics please... would also like a diagram of the system from water collection to your main pure water storage(somehow my brain doesnt always compute a pic, but a drawing is easier for me)

Ref grants, I may be wide of the mark but the basic concept is that any outlay for the equipment is 100% tax deductible as you are improving your green credentials(might also be a good selling point to customers)
There are a few links via goole to this but i'm damned if I can find them at the mo!!Will post up when I do

All our water is harvested rainwater, we have 2 IBC's connected to each corner of a barn roof.  In steady rain all 8 tanks fill quite quickly. Have posted about it before if you search 'water harvesting'.

This link may work..

Rainwater works for us, we filter it through a 3x20" VYAIR setup as we fill van tank and then DI before hose reels in van.  Resin lasts for a very long time. Customers think its a great idea too.

I think that this is an area that all window cleaners should be looking into.
I clean the windows on a very large, fairly new, beach side bungalow that has rain water recover built into the house with an underground tank. It's a holiday home and only has people in the house on weekends - so plenty of water available. They also have an outside tap fitted to the system. The water at the tap is 30ppm (ish) and I use it to top up my tank every time I call (normally it's around 110 ppm in this area).
I'm now looking into ways of having rainwater harvesting at home.  :)
