currently i leave a envelope and a card and my custys send cheques, some send like clock work a couple of days later, others are slow and some never send them,
is it worth putting stamps on the slow payers to get them to speed up? post office says for a hundred 2nd class its 32 quid think that would be enough for every month
-
We put a stamp on them all

My experience is that stamping and addressing the envelopes makes not a jot of difference - except to leave you poorer.
-
I leave a stamp on mine but still slow getting them
-
i leave a 2nd class stamp on all work worth £20 + i dont find it speeds up the slow customers, still have to ring them. it does suck spending x amount a month, but then it would be worse losing hours of time collecting, and wasting diesel.
i have been using paypal and bank transfer too. and chqs on rear windows. some custs deliver too!

Not really you only pay for returned envelopes, so you don't pay unless you are getting the money in.
I use this. It has saved me £100s

It states that the "liscence fee" is £76 per year per address. What exactly does this mean then FormB?
I was going to sign up to this a while ago untill I read that.
-
i use to stamp the SAE but not any more as it didn't do any difference to the customer and i was losing more.i might also leave the envelope with stamp for larger amount of money.
-
don't leave a stamp - most people pay. Occasional collection when they don't!
-
FormB, do they give you a franking machine and you print the envelopes?
-
I used to leave a stamped envelope, packed in stamping them a good while back, makes no difference with the speed of return.
Had a couple moan about no stamp, so I told them I will put your price up £1 instead of £2, they thought they were on a winner, little did they know I wasn't putting prices up as had saved enough from not using stamps.
-
i use SAE no stamps on the card it request payments to be sent within 14 days most take note but there are always a few slow ones it will always be like that,
-
I dont leave a stamp. Just a little slip to say i've been. My customers use their own letter and stamp. More and more are using internet transfer though.

Any advance on the above question? FormB?

Yes. You do pay £76 a year for the licence.
I do it for the following reasons:
1. I handed out SAEs and a proportion didn't get used (e.g. people popping the cheque through my door by hand, people who subsequently paid online, etc) so the cash was wasted. £76 is about a stamp a day, so I reckon the cash is not wasted.
2. The image you portray with a pre-printed reply paid envelope is out of all proportion to the cost of the whole thing. The image I project to customers and prospects is of total professionalism. This is part of that image and is worth the cash to me.
3. If you ask someone to send a cheque there are a handful of reasons they delay/forget.
a. Can't find an envelope
b. Can't find your address
c. Can't find a stamp
d. Can't find their chequebook
e. Can't be bothered to go to the post box.
My envelopes cancel out the first three reasons. The easier I make it, the quicker I suspect they will pay.
The envelopes also have all the ways they can settle printed on the back along with space for a reference (so I know who sent the cheque), an amount (so they know how much to make it out for) and the payee details for their cheque (so they don't have to look up my company name). Easy, easy, easy.
My customers seem to love them.
All my own opinion, of course. For some, all this is an utter waste of time and money.
Vin
PS Edited: removed picture as someone pointed out having my bank account details on the web might not be a brilliant idea. They are on the back of the envelope in the panel showing alternative ways to pay.

love the envelope suppose any printer can do them ???

I used Rapid Envelopes: http://www.rapid-envelopes.co.uk
3.6p each delivered to me. You MUST get the design right - it's down to single mm tolerances, so your designer needs to know what they are doing. If it's wrong, you'll pay (I think) a 20p surcharge on every returned envelope. Templates are at: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?catId=22100438&mediaId=13300195

perfect windows that is brilliant

I print my own & just add the stamp at the moment.
I would need to issue a serious amount of them to make it any more economical with a sleightly cheaper stamp cost regarding the £76 initial fee.
SO, can we then assume that there is indeed a £76 cost before you even start?

I think the giveaway was the comment in my post: "Yes. You do pay £76 a year for the licence. "

Not really sure on that TBH.
I'm pretty sure I don't pay £76 per year, although we do put out loads of these envelopes so it would sill be a saving for us.
The main saving is on non-returned envelopes. If you've stuck a stamp on there you have already paid for it.
If you buy say 5000 printed envelopes from www.envelope-printing.co.uk it adds almost nothing to the price of the envelope.

Looked into it.
I do pay the £76 per year.
But the savings far outweigh this. i.e
Second class stamp: 32p
BRP Second class: 24p
Thats only 950 returns per year to make a saving.
Non returned stamp.
Second class stamp: 32p
BRP Second class: 0p
Thats only 238 non returns per year to make a saving.

If you get 238 non return stamps in a year there must be something seriously wrong! :o ;D
Why would it be not returned? It is a postage paid with a request for payment. In the 4 years I've been using SAE's I reckon about only 5 have ever not been returned before the next clean!
Or, it could be me that's doing something seriously right o fcourse :D

Many of my customers don't have a cheque book, and the banks are trying to get rid of cheques altogether.
Paying on line into my account is gaining in popularity.
All my details are on my slip including my bank details, it's now up to the customer to decide on the best method of payment for them, but one thing is certain, evening collections will stop. Collecting money on door steps belongs to a long gone age.

Totally agree with this
All my details are on my slips too
