Title: Gutter clearing pricing
Post by: Steven Shoreditch on August 19, 2010, 09:45:56 pm
Not asking about what you charge, but how do you price when a job is some way from where you usually work?

Like, if your normal round is within two miles, and you get a call from somewhere 8 miles away, how do you price then?  Or do you accept your fate and do it at your standard rate?

Also, do you bother going to have a look to quote, knowing that you will be making the same journey again and not being paid for it?

look the property up on street view this wll give you a idea if its going to be worth going to give a quote  , if you think its worth going when you put your price in just add a bit extra to cover fuel cost .

8 mile isn't that far. I travel 12 miles just to get to the next town when I am cleaning in Essex.
I go out to the property to view it before giving any price, been had a couple of times with people asking how much for a 3 bed semi then find out it has a huge extension on it or a huge conservatory.
It is always best to view what they want pricing.

what i do is this...

if in a 10 mile radius free quotes out side of that i just add a tenner to the price for juice, i tell them this too, never failed me.

basic quote 50 to 60 quid a house with 3 sides and fascias empty and clean.

60 to 70 quid if 10 mile out
the 10 pound is in the price for the clean not to go and quote

i give a price on the phone , if its agreed immediately i know theyre normal .  i can always  backpeddle a bit on the price once i arrive if see something nasty

anybody who hesitates on the phone, or starts texting , sends alarm bells ringing

recently ive had a few hesitators ,with extra high windows/gutters and i am totally ignoring them

Make sure you have time to do the job when you go to quote. Take a mobile number or make sure you have a number that you can contact them on (unless they are going to be in). Then call the customer when you get there, if they're happy with the price then get cracking.
