I reckon I buy about 2 poles a year.
Carbon fibre top two sections, glass fibre the base.
18'.
Clamps go, and the carbon sections rot at their.
-
well ive bought 3 in 2 months of wfp!
first i bought a 20ft glass fibre n-tech pole(only used it for 2 weeks.its a spare pole now!)
then bought a 25ft alloy hydra.great pole but too heavy and long(closed length)to use all day for tops and bottoms.
just got a 22ft clx which will become my main pole for most regular work.
i also have a very short pole made up from a unger optiloc(itll be mainly used for washing the van now!)and a monster 30 ft 5 section unger teleplus for the odd bigger job.
id happly buy a clx every year if i use it on a lot of work day to day.maybe a new one every 6 months!
my other poles should last a few years as they dont get used as often.

I reckon on a year for a pole, mine is 11 months old now and getting ropey. Trouble is they are too good to throw away so now I have three "spare" poles that I have no use for.
-
Daz, that clx, is the hose on the outside?
-
SSWC no the pole hose is inside the pole.im off out now.cant wait to give it a full day out!weather looks crap here but gotta do a few hours at least.im sick of getting wet lately!but its rained nearly every day for the last month here. ::) ::)

-

-
I never chuck things away, in 50 years I wil have a museum ;D
-
NOT BEING A NOB BUT THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF LIFE IN MY 17FT XTEL I BOUGHT OVER TWO YRS AGO ORIGINAL CLAMPS TOO. SAYING THAT I DONT USE IT ANYMORE AS I HAVE AN SLX NOW AND GONNA GET A 22FT CLX
-
That's a worry as the poles are very expensive and you get through 1-2 a year.

what poles are you using? I only use ionics, maintain them and they will last you.
-
I go through 4 or 5. They don't hang around long when they realise how easy it is to set up and undercut me!
Sorry couldn't help my self ;D ;D ;D

No they are not expensive, around £100-120 for an everyday pole. If it lasts a year thats around £2 a week which is tax deductable anyway. Trying to soldier on with a clapped out pole will lose you more than that in wasted time.

Working 2/3 days a week we used to get through a fg pole every 6-9 months each, xtels and before that universals and excels. However we have switched to the slx and I have one that is well over 2 years old and going strong used every day and another that's coming a year now and looks fine. I reckon life on the slx with the new clamps will be 2-3 years easy.

What are you guys doing with your poles so that they only last 6 month. I have poles that were second hand when I started 5 years ago. Even in that time I have bought only 1 facelift pole.
-
I am the same i am only just starting to replace the second hand poles I bought 4 years ago when I first went WFP.
I have bought a couple of brodex poles for 3 storey stuff, which i do not rate very highly due to useless clamps.

What kind?

Which ones?
-
They used to last us about 6 months, until we changed to the Brodex Hydra alloy pole, 3 year guarantee and to be honest they've been going well over 6 months now and still look like new.
-
Not sure what the second hand poles are they are red but have no name or markings on them. They have be great poles.
The Brodex poles are the Hydra ones, clamps don't seem to hold the poles very well they sections just keep spinning. Have tried tightening the clamps. Not very impressed other than the 3 year warranty.

If your poles are not working right phone up Brodex and get them replaced. That's what I do. ;)

I can get over 12 months from a £14 Harris. I love the way you can just throw them about, unlike my SL2 that I have to handle with kid gloves.
-
i never throw mine away i strip them down an use them for projects or use bits off them on playing around with prototypes, Ive got a bit of a collection going on, i should sort through them as all ain't knackered just stopped using them i got spares for hybrids even got a 7th base section for a slx collecting dust, a good few modular section inc half section, some prototype carbon tubes, Ive still got my first ever extender pole it got shortened for shop front 9ft three sections, writing this i think i need to have a sort out.

I have had both my poles replaced by brodex already and to be honest the clamps on the new poles were worse than the old ones
