I'm looking for a bigger van to replace my ageing Astravan and am looking for something bigger. I fancy a Vivaro but have read some dodgy stories about gearbox troubles etc so its over to you!
What is the best Vivaro sized van from your experience? I'll have £5,000 - £7,000 to spend.

Oh god here we go again...! Not if you buy after 06 plate!
Transits suffer from ignition and injector faults.
Twice as many come into all the garages I've asked. Fact.
I've had nothing but joy from my Trafic and I'd have another one with no worries.
-
I vote Ford Transit I've had 2 , a 120 swb S reg & now a newer mid roof mwb mk7 18 mths old, very good vans
-
Nice one! So are the Vivaro, Trafic, Primastar the exact same van or do they have different parts just the same chassis?
-
Exactly the same van and parts, just badges up differently.
If you have £5k + to spend you will be able to get a 56, 07, 57 plate, no gearbox worries on these models with the 6 speed gearbox.

Sorry, should have pointed out...I meant the new Tdci Transits.
Apparently the old ones were a lot lot better.

everybody including me that i know with a traffic has had some sort
of problems. stick to merc or vw if you want build quality.
maybe a caddy or transporter would be in your price range.

You jest surely? ;D Mercs? They're bloody awful! VW's aren't much less plasticy either!
And for the record I don't know ANYONE who's had a problem with a Trafic.

My Transit is a 145 T300 2.3l dual fuel ... a 58 plate & very nice drive

My next van is going to be a VW Transporter or Toyota Hiace...

I used to sell Hi Ace's .... dead reliable NEVER had one come back apart from the one that drove through a flood and sucked in water that then blew big holes in the engine block ... users fault.
Seen them with 200k + on them still going strong.
Cheaper to service than a VW too.
Only downside is you pay about a grand more over the equivalent transit / vivaro / renault.
Also take a look at the Hyundai van as well appears to be good value.

Toyota Hiace - terrific to drive and last forever.
