Title: How many of you survey gutters before cleaning?
Post by: Jimmy Jon on August 14, 2010, 02:58:33 pm
Hello my name is Marc and I am new to this forum, I am thinking about investing in a guttervac/vacuum as I believe that there is a market for it locally and wonder if I also need to invest in a guttercam set up? How many of you guys actually survey the gutters before hand each time or is the customer just happy to have it cleaned without one? I suppose it is more professional.

I guess it depends on what level of service you want to offer.  You could probably command more dollar and pick up bigger contracts if you invest in that equipment.

Personally I use trad methods on my resi work and so long as the gutters are left clear the customer is happy.

You would normally be ok for domestic work, but a lot of commercial customers ask for evidence of before and after clean. Obviously a cam is needed to provide this evidence, either as pics or dvd.

Thanks for your comments, I am seriously thinking about buying a 110 volt Omnivac - Guttervac. I already have a 110 volt transformer so if I was to ever get any commercial work or work on a wet day there shouldn't be any problems.  It seems like a lot of people are earning good many for a genuine service. :o

How do they know its clear?
I use my cam, and video before and after, this way it proves to the customer that we have cleaned them.

Terry have a look at the polarvak. I think Craig there is planning a package, vac and survey equipment for about a grand.

Thanks Matt, That's interesting I will look into that option. How does the polarvak compare to the eastern trading machine? Does the polarvak not come with an extended warranty?

The PolarVak comes with a standard 2 year warranty. I have had mine since Christams last year and its just as strong now as it was when I first got it.

i,m an helpful poster to this forumn ...i have the guttervac and don,t think you would beable to make a living from the vac alone.....a lot of window cleaners have a vac system as they get add ons from their window cleaning round...but many in the past had realised it to be a white elephant and sold it on through the forumn..for a host of reasons heres just a few to think about

9o% of the time window cleaners pick up most of the domestic cleans and that if yr working in a 2 man team its easier doing them by ladder...

the actual space that the kit takes up in yr van ..mines a vivaro and is packed out with my static tank in as well.

the weight of the genny i have a 6kv one and its a 2 man job to lift it in and out

I state my gutter cleaning services on my leaflets and website, also I send gutter cleaning flyers out in September as most residential gutter jobs occur in September, October, November. as their gutters become blocked through leaves that have fallen.
