Title: Terraced Houses
Post by: rg1 on August 13, 2010, 03:27:03 pm
I have many of these where I live with no access to the rear. Had a phone call this afternoon from a guy who lives in one and he can't find a window cleaner to clean his windows cos of this problem.

I am thinking of investing in a back pack but undecided at the mo.

Any suggestions? Just steer clear or go with a back pack?

Cheers
Rob

when you say no access to the rear, do you mean the only access is through the house ?  if so i wouldnt bother myself.

I was just wondering this myself. wondered if anyone did just fronts.

Near me is a whole village i houses in rows that only have access to the rear through the house.

Steer clear of access through house only properties, even with a backpack its just too much hassle for little money unless he is happy to give you a front door key.

I should have made my original post clearer.

The only access is through the house. That in itself creates a problem when owner is at work all day.

So maybe steer clear or just do the fronts?

yes do not write off fronts only, if there is enough of them they can make you money

We have similar problems in Liverpool with terraces with no rear access, alleys gates etc... we do fronts only which is well paid quick work. We invested in a back pack to do the backs as and when they are in and want it done. I'd rather not do it to be honest, but if it keeps them happy it keeps me cleaning their windows and providing what they want. So my advice is get a back pack.

Some conflicting opinions regarding terraced property, so I will go away and have a good think about my next move.

Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated as always.

ok here is what I would do. I would ask if they in all day or would the time need to be arranged, if so price really high and make it worthwhile. if they baulk at this then offer to do fronts only and if they happen to be in you can do the rear but still at a decent price. there usually is a reason someone can not get a window cleaner but sometimes if you are brave enough and charge right it can be worthwhile and if it does not suit them then they can not be that desperate or they would be prepared to pay

DO THE BACK WITH THE BACKPACK WHEN YOU COLLECT IF NOT IN WHEN DO FRONTS.

tell them all you will do the backs every other clean on a Saturday morning ,at least you,ll catch them in then and the maintenance will be easier.
