Do you just give them your sort and account number and check your bank account online ?
-
yes, but get them to put a reference otherwise you won't know who it is. surname & first line of address works for us :)

I find having a seperate account just for this is the best way. otherwise its a right pain when it comes to checking as all the other stuff shows up inbetween.
One account makes it really simple to check then transfer money to biz account in one lump.

If you do this, don't use Santander as they won't show the references. Co-op do though.
As a reference I use <house number><postcode> or <first 4 letters of housename><postcode>. Keep a list of references on a database or spreadsheet.
It works just fine since I got them to pay into my Co-op account. Because Santander don't show the references, I now have two accounts for one business. Co-op takes the bank transfers and Santander take the cash and cheques.

That is a big no no......they are cxxp >:( >:(

Have been accepting payments this way since Aug 06 and it works just fine...
Customer gets my account number(no sort code here in Holland). then they put their postcode + house number as a reference.
I check the bank online each Monday and check them off in WCP.
Very easy and simple...

Quite possibly. I understand that they are gradually migrating A&L personal accounts under the Santander umbrella. There have been a lot of complaints about it too - with some people unable to access their accounts for a week or so.
Regarding the references: I complained directly to Antonio Osorio's office as someone gave me the email address. I eventually got a reply from the complaints department stating that they knew about this but were in no hurry to sort it out. They used to supply the references then stopped showing them so I can only conclude that it may be a malicious act to cripple the free service in order to sell an "enhanced" (paid for) service later on.
This bank (Abbey National/Abbey) was actually OK until Santander got their incompetent (greedy?) hands on it.

Depending on the size of your business, it may be possible to keep track as surname and amount still show. I got away with this for a while but as more and more people started paying this way, surnames and amounts were sometimes duplicated (e.g. I have 3 Jones's all paying £20).
