Had a really good run with 28 new customers in July .... so far for August zero ! :'(
Doing the same things .... saying the same things just no results not giving up but taking a few days away from it as possibly trying too hard ???
I know I will get there in the end but well annoyed at the moment .... light at end of tunnel is I think I may have my first commercial contract this week a local gym where sons mate is the manager ;)

Knocking constantly can get you down. I find having a day or two knocking and a day off helps with the confidence.

might be worth trying the less obvious roads . i was on the point of giving up on my very first day as a cleaner, because i set out on a posh estate door knocking and nobody but Nobody wanted to know me. so i drove on aimlessly and then stopped on a country lane at a big scruffy house and the owner was thrilled to get a window cleaner and this spurred me on and i cleaned a further 5 that same day on this same road out in the sticks where few cleaners go !

I have had success going after "sold" houses and then a few either side instead of going for an entire street.

I haver always found June-July-August slack months for picking up work...you know holidays etc....either side of this it always seems to pickup...keep your chin up ...it´s just a numbers game.
Dave.

get yourself an ordnance survey map of your local area and get down the country lanes , works for me regards alan

Ian,
Don't get disillusioned, it'll soon come back.
I agree with a couple of the other posts, take a couple of days off - you'll feel a lot more positive and it's holiday season at the moment.
I've losing two to four jobs a day 'cos people are away. Come September, it'll soon pick up again.
Use this opportunity to promote 'other servies' to your exisiting clients, such as gutter or conny cleans and while chatting, suggest to your existing client base about referrals!

Always true but be prepared for more time wasters and bad payers too. Mind you its all part of the learning process.
You just have to keep going, thats why a couple of days just stuffing fliers into letterboxes can seem like a break. Canvassing can be hard.

Thanks Guys !!! love this forum so full of good advice ! :D
Going to try some out of the way lanes / villages as the estates seem an obvious choice.
Found out yesterday that an old windie retired last year and no one bought his round which covers a large village about 10 miles from me getting knocking ASAP

nice one pal,all the best m8.
Im in the same boat and really hate knocking, went out with the mrs last week for half a hour and she spoke to 3 people and got me 3 customers.
Im gonna have to buck my ideas up and start knocking.
I think there must be well over 10000 houses within 10 miles of me and i just dont know where to start.
In the area i live in there must be 15000 houses but i just cant get going.I cant be bothered wasting time posting leaflets as i may aswell just bin them.
I think from this wednesday im going to start knocking doors and like you set myself a target and record how many new custys i get.Must admit im getting some great feedback from customers and a few referals at the moment so all is good.
Keep up the good work Ian,you have your head well screwed on mate.
Do you knock doors in company uniform ian?I do,i make sure i stand out.
