I have the same problem but border 4 different std's I did try an 0800 number years ago and found I had a lot of time wasters, hoax appointments and lonely people calling for somebody to talk to so took out an 0845 number.  It is difficult to gauge whether I am losing business from people who would only call an 0800 number but some of the calls on the 0800 number were a nightmare as  we advertise a 24 hour call-out, so would get idiots calling at all hours ped up at parties etc. I would rather not have the idiots calling. I did try keeping numbers as I have moved several times across the std s myself but it just got stupid, at one time I had 4 different numbers, at present I only advertise the 0845 and mobile numbers. An 0845 or 0800 number also lets you advertise in other areas and with our internet advertising I do get enquiries nationally.

Try Voipfone, geograhic telephone numbers cost £2.99 per month and you can point them at your mobile. It costs 12p per minute if you have calls transferred to a mobile.

DONT RELY ON A 0800 NUMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BY ITSELF. If its a choice between freephone or ghost numbers then it can only be ghost numbers by a country mile. Have had a freephone number for years but most people think its an out of area number so few call it. I use Telecom It. My bills for 5 out of area ghost numbers and calls included are usually £20-£30 a month.

cheers for all your help.
i don't want an 0800 no as i am seeing things as if i am the customer and i know area code will work better. Over the years have noticed this and now i want to expand it should give me a better chance.
many thanks paul
