Title: Drilling swivels
Post by: Dave Willis on July 28, 2010, 08:17:47 pm
Has anyone found a really easy way to drill and pin their swivel?
Mine are rarely in the right spot even if I use a drill stand. I've tried pulling the socket out and drilling through the pips but don't often get it perfect.

dave the holes are better bigger, this way its easier to put the pin in, i drill the out side holes first, pop it back on the other section, then drill each side, right through, dont worry if the holes are much bigger, will still work the same

I must order a few more soon. I think the bolts I use maybe a bit too thick. I'll rummage through my electrical drawer and look for something else. Great when you get them right but a pain when they are off centre.  :)

Ball and socket swivels tend to pop under pressure unless you pin them.

The best swivel ever is the Stanley paint pad handle conversion.
I have only managed to break one in 4 years of constant use, and that one fell from a great height.

I file a flat spot first Dave to give a more accurate start to the drill piece.

I know what Jouk's saying about a bigger hole BUT in my experience you end up with too much virtical play in the unit.

I know a place where they're £2-odd each with a standard £5 delivery, which is ok when you order half a dozen I think. ;)

Centre Punch and maybe even pilot drill aswell  for accuracy when drilling otherwise drill bit will wander off the mark.
