Now is the time to be thinking about 'your winter' planning....and putting a little away each week...

You can save a bit and still enjoy summer. Well, I can`t cos I`m poor but that`s a different story ;).

Last winter was a really bad one, worst for 30 years or something. That was why there was so many fed up window cleaners posting last winter.
I don't imagine we will get one that bad again for a few years, hope not anyway.

last winter taught me alot when it comes to planning ahead not just for work but personally too , it hit home how fragile a situation self employment can be if you havent planned for a worst case scenario, thankfully i had some money put aside but it went in that winter which meant i havent got started with a van as soon as i had hoped as i got wiped out savings wise, as i lost like others nearly a months work... i hope it was a freak but i wont bet on it, id rather be on the safe side and if the worst doesnt happen then either way i am better off :)

It was also a harsh reminder that you should think about putting money aside (if possible) for such eventualities

i lost less than a week last winter dont know what
the fuss was about ;D
we hardly have it like scotland where it literally was like

A SUCCESSFULL BUISNESS SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE MONEY PUT AWAY, NOT JUST FOR WINTER.
IF PEOPLE DON'T DO IT, THEY ARE SILLY.
IF THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO PUT MONEY AWAY, THEY SHOULD CHANGE CAREERS...

not easily done if youre still buiding your business tho the kids still like food and electricity

from dec 17th to maqrch it wa sbitterly cold in scotland. snow wa son ground from 17th dec to god knows when. It was perishing

Holland was dire...14th Dec until 22nd Feb...I lost so much work it took a toll on my savings...and cabin fever kicked in and sent me nuts....REDRUM, REDRUM...
Made me look at it with a different approach...now my working year is 23 or 24 Jan until 24th Dec...for hols and then if the winter is still bad there is money to cover additional weeks...
It made us think about the whole thing to the extent that no planned major purchases occur between August and March...personally having a 10k+ slush fund is where I feel most comfortable..at least it gives choices....not had a holiday for 3 years but by doing so it makes life a little more certain having a slush fund.
I just cannot rely on year round work in general... and make/save my money in reduced yearly working weeks.
Anything more gained is a bonus but not relied on...Ok we may not get another bad winter for a while but hey we might...

buy a trad pole and get some screenwash for your bucket and you will still be able to work a bit even if its freezing cold with snow on the ground!of course i had some money behind me as well.
but it kept me ticking over!! ;) ;D ;D ;D

i couldnt do enough to justify driving there with a trad pole upstairs daz, if i cant use ladders i go home, id make a mess on bay windows with a trad pole, soaping up then lowering to swap then back up , what about adeges and drips etc, make to much mess for the bother im afraid, they have a place on easy windows , but not all day on every house!
ps, i use one on shops and plenty of work , just dont see using them on houses practical
