Title: self cleaning glass
Post by: awcs on July 16, 2010, 09:17:39 pm
one of my customers has just replaced some windows with self cleaning glass. turned up today and she had been told that they must not be brushed because of special coating. Has anyone else come across and what did you do. The windows were rotten

wfp will b fine, but never use a scraper to remove bird  muck,as it will damage the coating on the glass,as one of my friends (trad buy the way) found out to his cost, infact he,s been done by the house owners insurance company to the tune of £3000 ahhhhhhh

not sure if its the same but i came acros a house with" low e  glass" , these were brand new and  i cleaned them trad.they at first were a devil to clean,as if the surface had a badly applied layer of varnish on them and i was tempted to never go back .  a squeegee alone never made them look right and i had to buff with a scrim to make good. Since that time ive had less of a problem but still dust the complete glass with a scrim. the glass looks as though its a very dark tint as you walk towards but it isnt tinted .

I did a clean for a long standing custy yesterday who has a new conny with the self cleaning glass fitted, he told me the salemen said "as its self cleaning you only need to wash it with pure water or a mild detergent like washing up liquid". That sounds like every other window i clean!
Cost them a fortune as well.

Its a very thin non stick coating, same as on a frying pan. But like the coating on a pan it will either scratch or mark if mistreated.
