Title: pigmented leather not being lacquered anymore
Post by: derek west on July 16, 2010, 12:31:02 pm
just been to look at a leather suite bought from csl

sales bloke told custy that they don't lacquer the leather anymore as it doesn't let the leather breathe.

guessing it was sales bow locks so he could sell them insurance at £78 per seat. :o

anyone heard of this?

Not heard of this 'idea' but let's face it leather stops to breath from the moment a polyurethane coating is put on top of the leather.
All the lacquer does is protect that polyurethane coating from absorbing spills etc.
Lets remember when we prepare the surface of a leather for re-colouring we are not taking the origional colour off (flip that would take some doing!) but taking off the outer protective coat (laquer) so that the new dye has something to stick to.

Another example of sales people who haven't got a clue as to what they are actually selling.

Complete rubbish as usual, but he may be mis-informed as usual i.e.some anilines are not coated (just dyed) and are very absorbant because of no lacquer.

Semi anilines arenearly as bad with a thin coating of pigment and even thinner coating of lacquer ::)

Never heard a salesman come out with this one before.
If they dont lacquer, it wont pass the wet and dry rub tests to comply with Brit Stds, so wouldn't be able to be sold in UK. Sales man is full of BS. He probably also tells custys to clean with baby wipes if he knows that much about leather!

Another example of great customer service from a retailer!

Judging by the retail prices of their suites they are pigmented and probably imported ....also, if they add £78 per seat, that's adding 50% to the price.

ARE PEOPLE REALLY THAT DUMB ?
