bought a tranny van, and buying a reach & wash this week.
The floor is already ply-lined, can i leave this plylining down, if i paint over it, using rubber paint, or protecter coat?
cheers
-
Personally i would rip the ply floor out go over it with a wire brush then protectacote it.
-
I ripped all mine up an then painted it but I don't think it matters really as it still covers the wood. Don't forget to go up the side about 2 to 3 inches as well. I used 4 ltrs to do mine an that's the lwb version
-
i ripped mine up and put down this waterproof roof paint down.big mistake as its got bitumen in and when its warm it goes all sticky and gets on my hands and all my equipment!!
ill be using protectokote in the next van i get!! ::) ;D ;D ;D
-
The reason to rip flor ply up is because you will always have water on it, if there is any holes in the paint it will soak water like a sponge and then rot the floor and as lined you will not see it.
I would take ply off floor and then paint
-
take it up and paint with a waterproof non slip floor paint, your ply will rot and stink.
-
Go for speedliner cost about 400 to 600 absolute quality. What system are you buying?
-
paint over the ply with Thompsons roof seal....mine is fine 18months or so later
-
Mate if you just got a tranny then dont worry about painting the floor , its gonna rot rapid as you like ;D , old washing machines and cookers are the chassis of your chariot , HEHEHE !

It is nice. I was thinking of getting one. Shame about the engine though...see other post...

thanks for advice, i'll take the ply up
-
tranny are fine, if they where made in germany other than that some are rust buckets, but you get what u pay for with a tranny
-
Transit van are fine for rust from around03 on.
-
Leave the ply where it is, it won't rot if you seal it properly.

a pin hole is all it takes Andy, you cant seal a problem you dont know is there.
Rip it up there is no need for it.
-
i took ply up on my vw t5
paintied protektakote 1 coat
on metal floor
put ply lining back and painted ply
if i get a pin hole should be ok
-
take up the ply for sure. Even protectacote struggles to stay stuck to damp ply.

The wood needs to be dry before the paint is applied. Purefreedom's advice to me was it's my choice wether to leave the wood there or not, so I chose to leave it in, just like the one in the pic on their site
