Title: Berber rug - Can it be Hwe cleaned?
Post by: benny d on July 07, 2010, 05:46:50 pm
Just a quick one. Can a Berber wool rug be steam cleaned? Truck mount machine.
I would have thought so, but just to be sure can anyone advise?
Thanks
Ben

Hmm so are we just talking about construction?

Has it any clour in it? Have you tested it for color fastness if yes?

Water can travel easily to backing so rinse with F&F and plenty dry passes,
otherwise you will get yellowing,

Sounds like the  8) leading the  8)

It's easy to give advice, but where are they when you have cocked up someones family heirloom! We are not talking carpets!

forgive me if i'm wrong but benny knows all about colour run and yellowing he's just obviously never come across a rug like this and is being sensibly cautious.

test and go for it benny.

Derek you are obviously an experienced carpet cleaner with many years under your belt, hence giving loads of advice on here which is to be commended, but sometimes you have to stop and think before you advise because what may be obvious to you may not be to someone else.

So when he says Berber and you say 'without hesitation' I think that's like going to see the Doctor and he gives you some pills without even asking what's wrong with you.

Just my hobby horse mate, no offense.

Yes, Derek's been around since the dark ages - his beard is touching the ground.
What Derek does do - is use his loaf and look at situations realistically.    Others are over cautious & seem to spend their lives 'testing' & not actually getting on with the cleaning ;)

At least you were asking Benny without jumping straight in. Better than ending up owning it.

Actually it was £55-00, and she seemed happy. Got rid of old coffee stain as well.
