Title: Bad smell!
Post by: james roffey on July 06, 2010, 11:18:08 pm
My sister phoned me today to say that she left some chicken in the boot of her car and forgot about it, it was not until four days later in the hot weather that she drove it again.
The smell as you can imagine was terrible the chicken had liquefied :-X :-X, she has attempted to clean it out but it still stinks, so bad that she drove it today and after she go out she could still smell it on her clothes, the car is a really nice Merc that her husband drives but while he was out of the country she has been using it :-[
I said she should try some Clensan but i also suggested she bring the car to me and i will clean it it appears that the smell has got into everything so i suggested she clean the leather too, what do you suggest i clean the footwells and boot with and or extract with, i have heard M Power /Nemesis is good for this or an enzyme digester what do you suggest, and dont say a can of petrol and lighted match ;D

One of the main problems with this sort of thing is that it is the simliar to body decomp. The air born smell would of attached itself to most of the car. Main area will be the boot clean all the surface including the metal and plastic dont forget under the carpet clean all the way through and check and clean the spare wheel area, then clean the inside of the car all of it windows headlining etc,  As most of the top cars have filters in the air system you may want to check them if she has been using the aircon when driving because of the smell it may have it in there to. Then switch on an air mover or switch on the aircon (if filters are ok) with the recycle air button on when the car is dry.
Then if it is still there go and buy lots of air fresheners and put them in the boot and under the seats. Then part exchange.

i once left my car bootlid open overnight ,shut it next morning and then didnt open the boot for ages.suddenly a Terrible smell .  turns out 2 rats had been in the boot and died in there as they couldnt get out.  i tried everything to get rid of the whiff, even soaking the carpets and even the roof headlining in cheap perfume but the smell was overpowering.  sold the car in the end !

Clean the affected area, apply a chemical such as clensan. Keep all doors and boot open for as long as possible.  If this does not work then hire a portable Ozone machine. This will definately work.
