Title: FAO Ian Giles!!!!
Post by: Sapphire Window Cleaning on July 06, 2010, 09:08:04 pm
With regards to the thread: FAO Matt MB Windows
What grounds did you lock this thread on?
First of all Ian this is a forum isnt it?
secondly it was admins that decided against personal messaging!!
thirdly how many WC's on here look for subbies to cover work within an area?
fourthly Russ stated he would email, no different to when Dave Morris asks for Sub contractors in specific areas and the thread is full of posts stating they have emailed him.

Regards

Matt
MB Window Cleaning

p.s. Why do I have the feeling this thread will be locked because someone disagree's with an admin.

Ian is Russ's post different to this post?
"Does any one cover Pulborough area"

To Dave Morris, Sorry, I shouldn't of singled you out as alot of other guys on here ask for subbies too, I just couldn't recall their names.
My apologies Dave

This thread has nothing to do with Dave, it was Ian who locked a post directed at me. so it is between Ian Giles and myself.

I thought that was what forums were for ?   to share information and help customers out by putting them in touch with window cleaners in their area ?

Title: Re: FAO Ian Giles!!!!
Post by: the bfg on July 06, 2010, 09:24:40 pm
and to help other windows cleaners by putting work their way ?

I thought that too bfg.
It has to be one rule for everyone, not one rule for one and another rule for someone else.

For this place to get like this and hack so many respected and regular members off and to get so paranoid is a new low. I've been on here about a year, and all I see lately is a clique of " confortable members" being able to post what they like. Matt has a point. One rule for some, another for the rest of us. It's got so bad that CIU's best posters have opened another forum where nobody is looking over your shoulder ready to hit the delete button.

No wonder CIU has to rely on new members asking "Safe" questions that don't rock the boat. Congratulations to the mods. You have this so called forum (Mates club) totally under control. You must be so proud. Now I just need your undercover mate (Tosh) to come and fight your corner. You sad bunch of non paid mods. What some people will do for recognition.

Funny, I saw it locked earlier & couldn't understand why? ???

Dave Morris sorts half his work out through this forum.

Has Giles turned into a numpty overnight?

I have considered myself a 'comfortable member' for quite awhile on here and have posted the odd comments (amongst relevant info) which i've never had a problem or been sanctioned for.
I like this site but think it will lose the cutting edge for upto date information, if what mb says is right. There is inconsistency on here and while it hasn't been to my own disadvantage, it isn't a good thing to see.

I'm not taking sides here, but i cannot see why anyone needs a FAO (name)  all you have to do is look
at the profile to get an email addy.

and to be honest i've seen some cr@p threads when its quite clear the people starting the thread speak or
see each other outside the forum - its just a stupid waste or time.

However i agree with Matt that this goes on with Moderators and other members - therefore Matts thread
should not be singled out if it concerned work.

They use to be instant messaging facility on the forum but for reasons I don't know the moderators/admins deleted this facility and flattly refuse to reinstate it.

To add your email

Click on profile at top of page
then on the left, click on modify profile
then Account related settings

Then untick the box that says hide email!

I haven't tried it yet

But I'm guessing that it will work

It's very simple, the forum is NOT for private messages between members.

The info was exchanged, the thread was locked, quite simple really.

Also, an FAO to an individual is a very different thing to a thread asking if anyone on  the forum covers this area or that, as that is an open enquiry for all of the forum to participate in.

I agree that it is a great shame this forum does not support PM's, but Admin had good reason at one point to remove it.

No one gets favouritism from me, I don't care who you are, if I see a transgression I deal with it, you don't like it then complain to Admin direct, if they also believe I've done wrong then it will be ME who gets my knuckles rapped.

Many decide to keep their email addresses hidden, which I know means sometimes the only way to get someone's attention is to give a thread the 'FAO' treatment.
You have to accept that if spotted it'll get locked...no use getting the 'hump' when you get your wrist slapped for breaking the rules.

And these 'FAO' threads soon turn into a free for all with every tom, Dick and Arry' putting their own replies to what is in essence a private conversation between two people....as in, "please read all of the replies to this particular thread."

Thread not locked (by me at least) I'm more than happy for others to see the reason why a thread may get locked...one of the reasons anyway.

It also makes no difference to me if someone complains about a thread...might be a bit 'judgement of Solomon(ish)' but if I don't agree with the complaint then I don't interfere with the thread...that isn't to say  either Dave or Admin might act differently of course.

Ian

I did not mean to cause a stir
but if i meant it to be a 'private message '
I would have sent Matt an email
I know has not long been down this way and is building his business up.
I had a genuine enquiry from an area I thought he may cover.
If any other person had responded they would have been passed the details
should Matt had not responded.
So this forum will not allow us to help each other - what next ?
There are enough rules in life without being padantic
I will now get off my soap box!!!!!!!!!
Some people- eh?

The info was exchanged, the thread was locked,

In light of all the changes recently i can understand questioning the reason behind it.
But the above said it all. Job done. Sorted.

Why indeed eh?

I've personally not locked it purely so others can see my answer and see why I might delete a thread, Dave or admin might well delete or lock it, that's out of my control.

And Malc...Couldn't agree more with you with regards to you being certified...should have happened years ago!   ;D

Do they? Are you sure? What's the link to window cleaning?!

I know of at least 15 or 20 window cleaners and none of them wash drives.

Most window cleaners offer windows, gutters conservatory and pressure washing.

If they dont, then maybe these are the type who run out of work or cant work on rainy days.

There is alot of money to be made pressure washing driveways and patios. I cant understand why 20 odd window cleaners in your area dont offer this service.....its madness :o

If I were you roger, I would buy a decent pressure washer and start earning extra dosh ;D Especially if the other guys dont do it.

I would like to think I am a good window cleaner and I have been full for the last 2 years and take on very few customers nowaday but.....on the days when its pishing down what else is there to do ???

I dont get much pressure washing but enough to pay for the little extras in life  ;)

In my eyes this makes good business sense and money coming in most of the time.

Not knocking any of you guys who dont do the extras but maybe this the chance for you to earn more.

Looking at the replies on here, I think your are corrct Stu. There are other window cleaners in my area who offer this, so I pressumed most did.

Anyway you must get more rainy days up the in Scotland than most of us ;D. You should be a pressure cleaner with window cleaning as an add on  :D

No. Another outlay for something that might not happen.
There's been about 3 wet days all year here, so that wouldn't even have paid for the machine!
I'm not bothered about the odd day off.

Hi Matt,

Ian and David moderate here in their spare time and there's no formal training courses or anything.  The site owner doesn't set any rules or guidelines either.  They pay isn't that good either.

And humans are pretty inconsistent things anyway, so there will be inconsistencies.

I would say if there's anything that anyone takes offence against, even if it's a locked topic, just hit the report to mod button and you can type a short e-mail that is sent to both Ian and Dave.
