Post by: Benji osullivan on June 30, 2010, 06:24:51 pm
wanted to know if anyone could explain there prices.i was watchin some vids on youtube the other day and the dude was charging $80 for what would be a £10-£15 job.i also heard some bird moaning about her window cleaning bill.$240 every 8 weeks for probably a £30-£40 job :-X now either there too expensive or were too cheap.would be nice if we were too cheap.id love to charge that much per house.

£3,000 a day would do me quite nicely  :o ahhh i can dream  :'(

i might be wrong, but i was visiting the good old us of a a few years ago, i found that when the americans do window washing, they do EVERYTHING like frames, fly screens, inside windows, outside windows etc etc etc.

Whereas you and me would be there for 20 minutes, they'll spend 3 or 4 hours, or even the whole day.  And they dont go there regular, they wait for the customer to phone em.

much prefer the way we do it.  Faster, and more reliable income.

This is true - they need more customers to keep it turning over - In the US it is more like Carpet Cleaning  ;)

The one american window cleaner I've met only went round every 6 months to year, maybe that's another reason they can charge more?

His wife cleaned the house while he cleaned the windows and frames etc. And yes they'd spend the day doing just one or two houses. Longer travel times too in the USA.

(Also, I was the only other window cleaner he'd met! Seems like there's not as common over there.)

I believe in some parts of America folks from them parts are considered to have mated with vegetables. Thats what Jeremy Clarkson claimed anyway, and that their knuckles drag on the ground

Classic example of some of the people on here, someone asks a question about american cleaners an someone from america answers them, then you get the resident idiot putting the fella down so now he probably won't reply on here again.

Well done an congratulations

Yeh, Steptoe, you have to remember that our American cousins do not have the same sense of humour as the British!  They can't understand stuff like irony; it goes straight over their heads.

So please, restrain yourself when making silly childish.

Now go and sit on the naughty step!

Anyway, I think Jeremy Clarkson got confused between America and The Forest of Dean.

I for one am a Yank that enjoys the best of Brit humor - Monty Python. Falwty Towers. Are you being served?, etc
For us cleaning windows often involves more than what you are used to on that side of the pond. We are expected to do the insides as well as the outs, clean the bug screens, and wipe the window sills. Most of our customers also have the windows cleaned far less frequently. My customers vary from every 3 months to as far out as 2 years.
By the way Tosh my family originates in Wales but I trust you can overlook that. ;D
