I ve just had a call from a local bowls club they require 50 chairs cleaninng. Im going to look at the job tomorow but havnt done anything like this before only domestic she says they like a dralon material. How would you fellas be pricing this?
They were going to get carpets cleaned as well but have decided on replacement.
Im keen to get this as its the type of work im wanting to do and hopfully a regular thing.
Any tips would be appreciated.

You are likely to get a wide range of pricing on this , I would quote £1.50 per panel , eg £3.00 if it is a base and back to clean . Should not be more than a couple of hours work . I would also invest half an hour cleaning the very worst of the carpet FOC to show what can be done , assuming the carpet is not totally worn out ,and you clean it well , there is still a chance to get the work.

Yeah Jason that was my thoughts as well when i take a look at carpet tomorow If i think it will clean up ok ill offer to do just that.

Karl here is a video i did of chair cleaning a while back, as you can see it took me 3 minutes to do a chair.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An6TFBzlbVY
although i used foam if you were HWEing your chairs I would think they would take the same amount of time so 50 chairs would take 150mins non stop which is just under 3hrs so i would charge between £150-£200 which is £3=£4 a chair.
it would be better to work as a 2 man team.

That video is embarrasing!!! :o
-
not as embarrassing as not having one at all. ;)
-
yeah thanks Mike i remember seeing that video. I did the NCCA 2 day course as well at the weekend where the dryfoam was showed to us
-
how did they do it on the NCCA course & what chemical did they use?
-
Exactly the same way as yourselve but wouldnt name any specific brands
-
Whats embarrassing about it. Quite informative I thought and at least he has the balls to do them.
-
Yep, there's no doubting Mikes's balls (oooer). But they do need a grab every now and then (even more ooooooeeerrrr)
;)

Mike,
While your doing all of that you might just as well have HWE and cleaned them properly. You can do a chair like that in 1 min 30 seconds.
By-the-way, you brushed the bottom of the chair first and then brushed all the crap from the backrest back into it.
Have to admire you for having the balls to do these things even though I disagree with the way you've gone about it.

Oh dear it looks like I'm on batter Simon night ;D
If the customer wants dry you can offer dry, IMO customer is king, HWE is not the be all and end all.

Simon did you watch the full video?
the reason we used foam was because they were dry in 20ish mins which was the main concern for the play-centre I've done chairs before with HWE and the still can be damp for quite a while.
plus this was quite an easy method to use ( no need to set up all the vac & solution line from the truckmount) and the end result was impressive. the time the chair took in the video was slightly longer due to the talking

I've never tried the foam Mike.... Is it similar to the "AutoGlym" foam for car innteriors? I assume it doesn't resoil or anything like that?
-
Shaun,
at the very least Mike has the balls to go public with what he thinks, whereas you just make glib comments in the hope of impressing people.
Mikes a big boy and doesn't need you to help him out, that's twice tonite you've come to his rescue ;D
But you are right that if a customer specifies dry foam then they should get it. How many nursery workers do you know that are upholstery cleaning experts who can tell you how best to clean their furniture?

Glib comments that's rich coming from you!
I try not to offend anyone and sit on the fence you rock the bloody fence hoping to make people fall off it just so you can have a laugh at their expense and you've been banned enough times on many boards because of it.

although lots of opinions have been given on this topic we need to remember the original question asked by karl... he wants advice on what to charge for 50 chairs.
let this topic develop any way it wants but if you want to post a response at least mention how much you would charge for karls 50 chairs
Colin I use Von schrider shampoo which is designed for this type of cleaning.

Cheers Mike... :)

Very quick one from me because I'm off to bed.
Them chairs didn't look that dirty. Could you not have just sprayed them with a deodoriser and said you had cleaned them. Lifes too short to be pi**ing about.

I do conference and restaurant chairs on a regular basis. If they are draylon then £4 each. Will clean really easy, pre spray 10 or so with a m/s, pureclean or ultimate master. Quick brush over and clearwater/acidic rinse with low pressure. This will make the draylon glow and look really nice. Wipe legs/frames down with a towel, buff and dress pile. 20 an hour hwe.
Just a small point check the fabric. Some group 'it's like draylon' along with viscose :o Do a water test on the underside, wet the pile, dry and test for stiffness. If the fibre springs up nice and bouncy it's fine. If it mats together it will require a quite separate technique and you will need to charge a lot more.

Chairs are just base and back, priced at £3 each and got the job for this friday :)
Very happy thanks for the help

Been advocating that style of cleaning on here for years as I've been dong it for years with great success.................I use a product from Yorkshire (chemblend ) which is incredible value at around £6 for 5 litres.
It's very quick to do and as Mike says very quick drying which is usually important ot the customer
