A standard 3pc suite is quite simple really to understand = 1 x 3 seater 2 x chairs

Andy has a point.
A 3 seater and a 2 seater is less work then a 3+1+1 (less arms)
One with reversible cushions is going to take longer then fixed seating and backs.
However I have gone along with the game and "voted".

Every now and then someone comes along claiming high prices etc but there is never a website or contact details?

All these high prices ::) until you trawl through the carpet cleaning websites even some who can afford them are charging silly prices and "special offers" £50 for a 3 piece suite, 2 bed flat £65 ::) well at least some of them.
I have a price on my website 12x12 room £50 price comes down a bit for multiple rooms and i am very busy at the moment cuts out a lot of price shoppers too am i doing the right thing or am i stupid?

I know it goes against the grain, but recently decided to give it a go, i qualify it by explaining why i charge what i do and it is working for me, but it does pee you off when you see guys who have been going for years charging silly prices but who am i to say its wrong it cant be healthy for the industry, well thats what i think.
if the phone stops ringing i may change it but for now fingers crossed

Its not a bad idea james one bit and will keep the price shoppers away as well,and as you say you can always change it.

That means a lot coming from you Joe :) always a worry when your own work is scrutinised by fellow carpet cleaners, i know its not perfect and could do with an upholstery page maybe but its a work in progress, this has gone off topic a bit !
My price for cleaning upholstery is, what i think its worth ;D

Same here james and its well worth a go myself if i need to,saves them wasting yor time and that covers your quality of work abd the starndards that you do.

You're obviously someone who takes great pride in doing a great job. I think having a price on your website is a mistake as the price is the one thing they need to ring you to find out. The website should contain the elements that gets them interested in you as a professional the person they have almost chosen to carry out the work they want done - all they need now is the price. If you then give them a price on the website they have no need to ring you and you lose the opportunity to use your skills to win them over. Also, people don't know what 'splash n Dash' and large franchises' are, and by mentioning them you are making them aware of other alternatives they haven't thought about and have them think, 'Oh, there are other things I should look at before I make a decision.' the last thing you want.
I'm sure you've thought all this through, so I'll shut up. ;D

Who knows who is right, i think that the public are savvy enough to work out what the term splash and dash and franchise mean, i understand what you are saying and i am not suggesting you are wrong only you maybe wrong, the getting them to ring you is a good point and one that i have thought about, but the reason i have put it in writing is is does explain it better because it is prepared and i have taken this into account by making the site very personal in that i am selling myself as well as carpet cleaning and i am sure you will agree the first hurdle is the trust element with a lot of customers the emphasis of the site is about instilling trust, providing value and quality.
The only thing i know as a fact is that from google anylitics i am getting very positive feedback and more importantly work. time will tell though :)

Simon is right, a custy will see prices on your site and then call another to compare. That cc then has the opportunity to sell himself and get the job?

Joking aside if i saw that on a website i would definately want to know, why is this guy saying this, its a sort of reverse logic, if someone says cheapest carpet cleaner in town what do you think, because i know what i would think :-X
and the type of customers that would be attracted to that type of carpet cleaner i dont want.
Who am i to say you guys with all your experience are wrong, and i can understand your viewpoint and it makes sense, but nothing is written in stone and i can change it in an instant if i want, but whether it's the season picking up or not i know almost all my work is coming from that site :)
PS will carry out some customer feedback about some of the comments made and let you know, i bet Simon a £10 that they will have a good idea what splash and dash and franchise mean.

If you getting enough calls and turning them into bookings then its working ok for you.
I havnt tried it myself James, but be interested in out it goes in the longer term.

I may well lose that one, :'( but the issue is there is no point in mentioning anyone else as possible alternatives to yourself as having been to your website there should only be one person in the frame for the job - YOU! We are amazed at how clued up people are when they ring us having been on our website and by the time they ring us they have all but chosen us for the job, all they want now is the price. And even if the price is a little higher than they wanted, they still go with us because they've been persuaded that if they go with us they'll get a fantastic job done.
If you're going to mention prices, why not go the whole hog?

I quite like this as a business model and is in my view a really good way of using pricing as tool on your website.

This is just one of those inponderables, like most i close a lot of deals when i get to speak to the customer first, or even better when i meet face to face, but the prices page on my website is new, the old website did not have one and research i carried out with family friends and customers said wheres you prices, did a job today the customer did not even ask how much it was going to cost to clean a lounge /diner stairs and landing she had been on the website had an idea i imagine, phoned last week to do today total cost of that £200 got a £10 tip too she was happy so was i.
I use google analytics to monitor the site and know exactly how many go onto my site and "bounce" out again without contacting me, only 20% even go on the prices page anyway.

Some of the higher prices may include vat, some may also include protector.
