Title: Buying equipment and uniform
Post by: Dean Taberner on June 11, 2010, 08:12:43 pm
Hi guys,

just a quick question,

What do you wear at work regarding a uniform?

We do a hell of alot of sub-contract work so as such cant have a personal company uniform as it would cause a massive conflict of interest,

Ive decided to buy myself and my lads some Ettore Polo Shirts so we atleast look the part.

What do you guys wear at work?

Dean

Hi Dean

If we cant wear our own shirts we wont clean for them, simple as that.

those who try to insist on it are just paranoid and want to protest their work, no matter what they tell you.

i wear a golf windshirt . golf windshirts are very light ,special material ,i dont sweat in it and they have elasticated cuffs, elastic waistband and Vneck.  they have a generous cut under the arms so  dont hang me up ever when squeegeeing . online golf folk sell them

Dave,

Nobody has ever told me not to wear our own shirts,

We do have our own shirts but with the service we offer I like to be and feel a part of which ever company we are representing, its just personal choice.

I speak to many store managers who ask enough questions as it is whith out the old ''are you a new company, I thought ------------ had the contract''.

All I want to see is a smiley face and a signature.

Heres mine Dean...

Karrimor snow boots / walking trainers (depending on the weather)
Dickies plain blue combats (2 for £25)
Plain green polo shirt (changing colour to light blue soon)
Plain blue jumper

Why not get some Logo'ed kit for your work and a couple of tops for subby work... polos & jumpers are cheap as chips in plain colours (prob be the same price as the ettore kit all together)

Or you could ask the people you sub out for for some of there kit if you wanted

It eliminates the sub-sub issue fella,

we always wear our own shirts on our own commercial and domestics work but I could do without picking up anymore work as ive noticed im turning grey with the stress and im only 30. A uniform with no company name and no telephone number
so my phone will eventually stop ringing is the way forward.

Branding is important for any business. If these subcontractors are afraid of your competition they should do the windows themselves.

Dean can't you just get a polo with 'window cleaner' wrote on it? That way you will at least let people know your job when you don't have a pole or squeegee in your hand an you may even get away with having your number on it.

I have polo shirts with my company name front an my own name, then on the back I have my company name and my number cost me 11 each with the printing on it, also got some smart cargo pants and shorts as well as jumpers an hi vis's
