If not Colin we could have a tractor meet on the A30... ;D

Paul I wish you well and I don't know how the end price would be different, but the prochem dealer up here (Neil and Jason will know who I'm refering to) knocks 20% off list price and because I asked him nicely the other day has said I can have another 15% off in future ;D
-
Thanks for the feed back Neil. We have to start somewhere and obviously regular clients would i'm sure receive a discount on those terms.
As i have had trouble myself getting hold of a good supplier down here for Prochem products hopefully it will prove succesful, as with everything, the more you buy the better the discount and this will be passed on.

If they work on 40% profit, 5% after all those discounts anit much at all even if they are regular customers :-\

its one thing giving a discount say 15% because most of us don't charge RRP, but 35% discount is crazy, its a business us distributors are running!!
-
Paul, good luck on your new venture. I can tell you one thing, its bloody hard work running a distributorship. Please don't be dragged down the road of huge discounting, it all ends in tears as we have seen so often over the last few years with Olympic and others going tits up. 40% isn't a massive amount. Thats 40 quid for every 100 quids worth of products. Most people buy the amount needed to get free delivery so that delivery cost, £8-16 has to come out of that 40 quid. Then you have rent, rates, electricity, marketing, vehicle costs etc. You will be left with about £10 before tax. Keep in mind, and this applies to carpet cleaners as well, every 10% discount means you have to do 25% more mork or sales to make up the lost profit. Put your prices up by 10% and you can do 25% less work for the same profit. That 10% is straight off or on your bottom line.
Good luck.

Colin dont knock tourists , if its anything like my area (Whitby) you would have no work without them.

Thank you John for the advise all of which has been noted. It just proved very difficult a couple of years ago to get someone to do a demo on there machines here in Cornwall. So i thought then if i get a chance hopefully there is gap in the market??
We also do other cleaning/laundry so this is an add on to the established business. Nothing ventured...nothing gained as they say.
If nothing else i have improved the profit from our own carpet cleaning department and got plenty of stock to keep us busy. ;)

It's only a joke Mike.... And actually, I tend to clean mainly domestic carpets and ovens anyway. So I don't really make anything out of tourism, quite the contrary in fact.... My water bill is £115 per month, we pay one of the highest prices for water services here in Cornwall.... This is to cover the costs to keep the beaches clean for tourists ::)

Colin I would of thought there woud be plenty of holiday cottage etc to do or spin offs in other areas.
