Title: Printing
Post by: Jack Wallace on June 08, 2010, 06:42:03 pm
I seem to be doing loads of printing these days, return envelopes, payment slips, work sheets and so on.
Up to now my ink jet has been fine but I was thinking of doing a big push with flyers and instead of ordering from a printer I would rather print my own and then I can mess around with the design to see what works best.
I was wondering about getting a laser printer. Has anyone got one and would you recommend them?

I wouldn't recommend a colour laser printer for quality work - especially if reproducing a photo.  It is fine if you want make a half reasonable flyer though.  Just don't expect top notch quality.

Modern colour laser printers are getting much better, but you definately want to look at commercial standard ones, like Bizhub for example. I have seen samples that are easily as good as lithography and down have the drawbacks. talking money though...

I got a samsung ml 1640, laser printer, black and white only, got it from Argos after reading good reviews on it. Ink is just running low on it now, but have seen top up bottles on ebay that will be loads cheaper than getting a new ink cartridge. I got sick of having to change the cartridge in my old printer which was colour but only 1 cartridge, so it started printing everything red when it was running out (did not last long).

i would never go back to inkjets after using a laser printer, i use a hp one cost £79 (black) about 2 1/2 yrs ago, never smudges, which i used to get all the time on my epson inkjet.

the 1st toner lasted about 1 1/4 yrs and second still going, but should be running out soon.

toners are £20 online.

the only drawbacks are its slow compared to others, but unless speed is a priority its no problem.

but fast ones cost a lot more.

heres a link to the one i got
