Title: smoking
Post by: Moderator David@stives on August 24, 2005, 10:11:33 pm
i was just wondering how many guys here actually smoke .
And if you do do you think you could perform better at work if you didn`t .it seems like i am the only smoking local window cleaner.and the old timers around here are running around on duracell.it would be interesting if you could state in your replies-
1- how many cigarettes a day if any
2 -how many hours a week you work

i think the results will be interesting

How the hell can you have a choice in a poll that say's "I smoke socially"?

It's a bit like saying "I only have Plague/Aids/ Syphillis to be sociable"

I stopped smoking not long after starting window cleaning, although I do smoke cigars when I have a pint.

I still thought I was fit when smoked mind, and smoked throughout my 17 years in the army and was always maintained a good enough standard to pass my routine annual fitness tests (which weren't difficult mind).

But after starting window cleaning, up and down ladders all day; I just had to kick the fAgs.

I'm now on around ten peices of nicotine chewing gum a day, and have been for over a year!

Probably get through about 4 or 5 in work hours, but two of them are before work and after lunch, so only a couple at work.

I only do it if customer isn't in, or smokes themselves.
Just feel image conscious. Doesn't look professional.

Get through loads at the pub though. :D

Wheezy!

From a health point of view, long term use of nicotine chewing gum is nothing compared with smoking.  Remember nicotine chewing gum contains just nicotine, whereas cigarette smoke contains something like 650 poisons.

Have you heard of Alan Carr's 'Easyway' to stop smoking?  I attended one of his clinics, cost £150 for a five hour session and was really good.  They offer a money back guarantee and have a 90% success rate.  Google for him.

In the end though, will power and nicotine replacement therepy helped; backed up by constant nagging from my marathon running Missis!

As an ex-heavy smoker I have a far greater sense of well-being than when I smoked.  It's also less effort when working.

Don't give up on giving up.

Hi,

This post albeit has nothing to do with window cleaning & should not be posted here reminds me when I joined the local gym paying £65 a month with unlimited use. Whenever a smoker said  that I must be earning a fortune I replied not as much as you because you must spend twice that a month on cigarettes.

Kevin,

You might say that being a non-smoker, but I disagree.  As a direct result of stopping smoking I can now work longer and harder window cleaning; therefore earn more dosh.

So I think that your health and fitness is directly linked to your earnings by the fact we have a physically demanding job; window cleaning.

this is exactly why i started this thread .if you notice i asked for your working hours as well as about your smoking .
i wanted to see if there was a pattern for smokers working short hours .because i honestly think i would be fitter and work longer if i did not smoke

Google for Alan Carr, he does a good book on stopping smoking.  It was the No1 'self help' best seller.
