Title: entrance mats
Post by: Andrew Briscoe on June 03, 2010, 01:57:12 pm
Hi, been asked to clean 3 entrance mats on a fortnightly basis, usually a laundry
company do them, however they now only have a distribution centre here now,
and they seem to have raised their prices.

What would you guys charge for 3 size roughly 1.5 x 1.8m each fortnightly

Pick up will take 3 miles and15 mins of delivery time + clean.

I have a price in mind, just want to see what others would charge.
The company is one of the biggest in construction and rail work around here,
and their may be spin offs for other work etc etc..

The delivery/service company will probably charge £10 per mat to exchange and clean. I would look for £20 per visit

so laid out they are the size of a small living room which needs picking up and dropping off

I would charge £80...... but doubt they would go for it.

Thanks guys,
i was thinking along the same line as Mike H, but slightly less.

I will call the other company tomorrow and see if i can suss out their price.
Also if i get in with this company, it could lead to a lot of work (possibly).

The large boys quote around £8 per mat. And include an exchange.

We do entrance mats, alot of them and charge no more than £9.00, incluing an exchange. However the exchange would not include a mat that has their logo on unless they had 2 made specifically.

Might be not worth it andrew if its a low price and you would end up dropping the job mate ..

To earn out of it, You need to work on Volume. They only take a few moments to clean. We do a large number due to the fact we are Office Cleaners and had an extensive client base.

The mats are their own, with logos, they have 6 all together, 3 on the floor,
3 away being cleaned.

Dave, we are contract cleaners too, and i was thinking of going in, just to
get a foot in the door, they have very large office space, and also are house builders
so there is scope for a lot of work from it.

Little acorns to massive oak trees.   Initial didn't start with 10, 000 entrance mats they must have colected one or two and developed a Nationwide business from there.

If you have staff passing almost daily then collection is not a problem.

If these could be done whilst your gear is already set up then its only like 9 sq metre. in total.

I would be charging £30 max or even less if you think its worthwhile.  ;)

I did 6 rugs the other day, various sizes from small to about 7'x5', all fairly thin ones and no straggly bits to fight with.
Took an hour and quarter and charged £75.
If I had charged per rug at the rates you hear some cleaners charging per rug I would have gone hungry.  Got to be realistic at times.

Then, my opinion would be to go in alot lower than £80 - 60 pounds per clean. £8.00 + VAT per mat twice weekly or weekly. Thats if you want to be competitive.

If you want to try your luck at earning from it on the mats alone at a high price. I wont hold my breathe.

Logo mats cost around £100 - £200 generally they are hard wearing so will last. If you do not go in cheap another company will and they have their foot in the door.

I wish you well.

I have a mat clean I do, the company drops it off, and I clean it at the same time as on anther job, they collect. £14 a time. Once in a while I have to set up a machine to clean as a job on its own, thats not economic long term.

However I have had good work leads from them in the past and its worth it for the contact, and an occasional beer with them.

Cheers

Mike

Picked up the mats this week,
1 was 3' x 18"
2 where 5' x 3'

took me 1/2 an hour, as they hadnt been done for a while.
So £65+ vat was a good price i thought. Thats every 2 week.
I usually have a few rugs to do, so will be doing all at same time.

Niel, didnt realise there was a missing post, you do have a reply to
this topic on CCDO though, maybe thats the one you mean.
