Title: merlin owners do I need ?
Post by: Andy@w.c.s on June 02, 2010, 06:33:53 pm
Hi guys
I have set up my mate merlin today and have had it on flush for the two hours as in the instructions

it has a psi of 31 going in from the mains tap this then drops to 28 when anyone in the block of houses uses any water ?

it is currently making 1 ltr of pure @7ppm every 38 seconds
Tds in is 74 /75

would you expect this to be better ?
and would a booster pump help to bring down the pure further ?

the waste is only running @ 77 /78

any thoughts

Andy

You need 50 psi at least.

Also I would get a 10" pre filter set. These are only £2 to replace and will make your membranes last longer while also reducing your tds to nearer 0.

The merlin will reduce your tds by 90% so seems calculations are spot on.

I think the only way to bring it down to 0tds is to polish it off with DI resin after merlin setup.  Resin will last ages with a tds of just 7 going in.

Just remember to run the merlin for about 10 mins each time you fill as it takes time for the TDS to settle.

I run a merlin at around 40PSI.  TDS out was around 006 when the membranes were new (200ish at tap).  I think those results are pretty decent considering the low pressure.  I prefer to rely on mains pressure and a ballc0ck in the tank myself as I've been let down by electrical cut off in the past.
