Title: stainless 4040

anyone use a stainless steel 4040 housing for there membrane? looking at getting the 4040 setup, and didnt know wether it is worth paying the extra to get the stainless instead of the plastic housing?

NO..  in fact make sure you get the Champ plastic one. The stainless ones are a nightmare to change the membranes in.

Really? Mine was pretty straightforward? Changed membranes 3 times total, no problems for me. Only advantage over a plastic housing is that in the event of a major freezeup the plastic housing can crack.

I have the stainless steel and from what I can see the only advantage is that it's shiny.  Should be the same efficiency as the plastic.

If the membrane is a bugger to get out, remove one end and use water under force at the other to push it out.
