Title: hydrogen peroxide
Post by: derek west on May 27, 2010, 04:46:55 pm
got some hydrogen peroxide coming on monday, 3% 6% and 9%. gonna be doing some playing about with different stains.

from what ive gisted over certain posts, you paint it on then dry it off with a hairdryer when youve got the right shade. is this about right or as anyone got anything else they can add so we can try it.

just need to take this stain thing to the ultimate level but not on my custies carpets till i'm confident.

cheers if i get any advice and if i don't i'll just blag it till i know what i'm doing with it ;D

You can acellerate the result by mixing with amonia as well,

i dont normally bother with anything below 9% unless you have all day to spend there, i did get some at 18% from hairdresser once which was alot more fun,  8)

Not been able to get it for a while though, alot of chemists seem to only stock 3% which is a bit useless.

you will defo need to dry with hairdryer if you want to see the results staight away.

When working the stain, stop at about 90% successful. It may continue to work until completly dried.

Just one reason why some say that stain removal is as much an art as it is a science.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I prefer to apply with a pipette or eye dropper or for very small spots with a Qtip bud.

I don't apply right to the perimeter as the product can wick outwards.

Measure out small amounts and return the cap to the bottle immediately as it will be degradeing. Once opened, product can go off quickly so buy small bottles only unless you are using it as, for example, a booster to a pre-spray.

You can get stabilised H2O2 which has a longer shelf life. Some people prefer to use the cream variety as used by hairdressers.

To be honest, I rarely use H2O2 of late.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Sodium percarbonate you can buy this in any supermarket under the name of oxibrite about £4 a tub and yes its good stuff great on stains its sodium carbonate mixed with hydrogen peroxide

It also is very good for getting mould of tiles on EOT cleans

Mike the £38 price ends up at about £53 when you add vat + delivery so thought i would mention the £4 tub in the supermarkets you could give that a bash first it does go off and forms a hard lump must be kept real dry and airtight. hope this helps.

Hi Guys

I use Prochems Oxibrite aas a source of hydrogen peroxide, just dissolve in warmish water and it will form hydrogen peroxide, which will decompose into water and oxygen, which is the bleaching agent.
5 Kg will lasyt you about 15 years!

Some prefer already mixed/diluted hydrogen peroxide but there is little point in buying different strengths, just dilute it with water!

2H2O2 decomposes to 2H2O and O2

Cheers

Doug

The term "bleaching agent" scares me a little should the use of this be only on white or natural clolour carpets ???
please explain the safe procedure for using oxibrite in this way :)

Ok, just to clarify for me, and maybe others,

What concentration of oxibrite do you mix?

Do you need to mix it with FF rinse and shampoo?

What is the procedure for use on urine?

Anything to be wary of?

Much appreciation anyone willing to answer.
