Hi guy
looking for some help as i have been having problems with my 40 40 ro, i have hads it for four years running nrarly every day as we use a lot of water ,
the problem is that the tds readings have now steadily climbed It was running at o when i first had it and after a while it started to produce water at around 2 then up to 5 and now i am now able to get it down below 12
I have a boster pump from day on because of my pressure and do flush regularly and change the filters when they need doing ,
so now i am a bit confused
flushed tonight for an hour and have fitted new filters tonight but still running at 12
My tds in is 80
Any help ???

not to clued up on the 40/40 but do these have a seperate waste restricter as sometimes these need cleaning out or replacing as it can affect your tds slightly. i have one on my 300gpd r/o but mu r/o is about 6-7 years old and things have moved on since then.

Hi i have one these my tds reading are around 350 after about 2 years i had same poblem supplier said it should have only lasted about 1 year to about 18 months so i feel i have had my money's worth, if i only have to replace every two year's i can live with that

all i know is on mine if i change the waste restrictor and decrease the waste output then my tds does go up slightly 5-6 ppm as this happened last christmas when all our membrain houseing etc split due to the freeze and i ordered the wrong restrictor and went back down when i eventually put the right one on although in theory it should just mean the membrains get used quicker with a decrease in waste output. So maybe worth a small adjustment to see if it changes..
Also did you flush the new filters when you put them in..

Andy I think its time for a new membrane - 4 years is doing extreemly well you had your moneys worth on that one now its time to replace
-
actually after re-reading your post have you just changed the filters and not the membrain if so then its more then likely the membrain is on its way out and needs replacing..remember to flush your system for a good hour or so when installing any new filters and membrains.

by the general answers to the post i have done well out of my RO it has produced water every day for nearly four years so it my just be on its way out
do you think it would be worth buying a new complete unit and buddying up the old one in front of the new one would i gain anything ?

if your getting nearly 4 years from one i wouldn't bother with the extra expence and hassle..

4 years... it's time for a new membrane.
Don't bother with the expense and extra hassle of getting a complete new system to piggy back on to your existing one.

I would say that if you don't mind the TDS at 12 (assuming you have resin after RO somewhere), don't bother changing the membrane yet - UNLESS there has been a sharp decline in the production rate of pure water. It really depends whether or not you mind using up more resin. I think my personal maximum for looking at an RO change would be around 35. This should still give about 14,000 litres of pure per bag of resin - probably about two months worth for me.
I had a post RO TDS of 16. Then I started restricting the waste (new water meter) so it's now 22. Mind you, it is a merlin and they're not the cleanest of ROs. Even at it's best I only got 004 from it (no waste restriction). This is with tap water of around 200 TDS.
It can be a tricky balance juggling costs while on a meter.

I had noticed a gradual decline in the output from my RO before finally getting the message and replacing the membrane. What a difference. It was totally transformed.
