Large floor fans at Lidl & £29.99 each ,got 2 today Ideal for drying suites or just keeping cool working in warm weather , well worth a look.

This is what I said in my original post
" At this price they are not snails or downdrafts, but I found they do an adequate job for the price they cost ie value for money."
and then
" however mine in the living room at the moment helping to keep us cool".
I stand by all I said, which is pretty much what Mike Roper just said as well..

Yeah, i agree. They're OK but not that great compared to more powerful fans. Suppose you get what you pay for eh.

Sorry hadnt noticed Joes earlier post. I take what you say but I think for suites these things are ok , they move a fair bit of air around.

i know they are well overpriced at the moment but has any got one of the new dyson fans? i wonder how well they would dry furniture?

Havnt seen one Colin, any link to photo or sales pitch.
All is needed is movement of air across the carpet or furniture. There maybe technology in it, but the cost of snails and downdrafts seems a lot of money to pay (£160-£300) when you can get someting that is effective for £30-£40.
I have had a downdraught and a snail, yes they assisted in the drying, but most of the time just took up bulky space in the van, hence I sold them just over 12 months ago. Richard B-F was selling one couple weeks ago for the same reason I think.

Finally got round to buying one the Ashbys 1.5hp.
Not sure I like using them now I've tried it out.
The merest hint of dust and fluff in a room and
they find it.

Covered in it after all over me lol..
There again dont see the point of not having a powerfull dryer mind you..

Use my snail loads,mainly to keep me cool ,fine if i remember to put it on prior to starting

Snail blowers and downdrafts are primarily designed for building drying. They are running 24/7 for weeks on end so therefore need exceptional motors. Thats why they are costly.

The snails just keepon going - my oldest is 12 years old, and apart from som Hammerite on the metalwork, has not needed any service work.

I bought an Ashbys snail blower and I'd say it's the most powerful drier I have ever had, it dries faster than anything else, it's not just about moving air it's about moving quickly.

Far be it from me to question 'legend' Shaun - but 'it's not just about moving air OR about moving it quickly' - it's about 'how much air' you are moving quickly

Well I guess the 2 could be of the same thing, the quicker you move it the more you'll move (bit like the missus when she goes shopping)
As you get older do you get more pedantic Frans?

Not quite - but :) :) either way. I can shift x cfm through one fan at the same speed as 10x cfm through another fan

I haven't used a snail type blower on a residential job for at least 7 years. Last time was after I'd just put the first coat of dressing on an Amtico floor in a kitchen.... then watched the fluff storm settle all over it. Seems the lady didn't keep the top of her kitchen cupboards very clean ::)
Usually though it's the crap down the back of radiators that gets you. I use the Honeywell 18" axial fans, they're brilliant. However mine are very old now. I'm looking at replacing them with the ones from DriEaz... expensive but bloody good build quality.
