change the motor

Why go straight for a new motor? change the brushes first i reckon that will do it

My mate has a Ninja 400psi and he's having trouble with the water pump, when he starts the machine then he gets 400psi when he triggers it goes to 0 psi, anyone know the answer?

A possibility is that the pump head is worn out. just had to replace mine for similiar sounding symptoms.
Replacement is £195=vat.

iv had a ashbys ninja 400 psi which was fitted in august 2008 and failed on the 1st may 2010 is this usual as it had light use ashbys said the bearing was worn the pump would work for a couple of hours then failed the next day it would work again for a couple of hours and fail again it seemed to have a very hot smell about it.

Thanks Roger, he says that it makes a horrible noise like a tractor when he switches it on.
Shaun
PS I said it's because it's an ex tractor - get it?

If it's that noisy the eccentric cam has broken, or the
piston is so worn that there is very little travel. This means
when there is no demand you have pressure, open the trigger
and insufficient flow to maintain any pressure.
Replacement bearings are about £25.
I was going to suggest starvation to the pump, but
the noise is the give away.

Thanks Andrew I will tell him although for an ex scrap metal man and carpet fitter he's useless with a spanner.
