could anyone give us some info on these tiles and how to go about cleaning them, especially the grout which looks like its be redone over the top of the old grout.

Difficult to tell without seeing them in the flesh, but they look to be either ceramic or porcelain. Good strong alkali cleaner, bit of dwell time, good scrub, rinse off thoroughly, et voila. Get a grout brush on the grout while your at it.....but, if the grout looks like it's been replaced over the old grout, then check it doesn't just scrub off - if it was done badly it may have not keyed to the old grout.

As Chris says. Ceramic or porcelain tile designed to look like natural stone. You can tell its a tile by the repeat pattern on the 2 adjacent tiles. Natural stone would have random features.

cheers john and CF, done ceramics all ready with good results even on the grout lines, the gen4 works a treat on em.
