Title: Problem with charging a brand new WCW backpack...
Post by: Tom White on May 13, 2010, 03:03:14 pm
Has anyone had problems charging the WCW backpack?

Mine won't charge, though all the connections seem to be okay.  It's brand new and this is it's first charge.

send it back

Being a thickie Geordie I've binned the box and cut the spray attachment off.  I suppose I could buy another and post the old one back in the new box received, but if it's a simple common problem I'd be happy to fix it myself.

The supplied charger for mine was rubbish, europian adapter thingy. It only worked for a bit and eventually started smoking. I got another charger from maplins for £20 and changed the conections on the backpack, it works sweet as now.

They are notorious for coming new with the battery terminal wire hanging loose. You have to separate the black base from the upper body, slide it gently to the side or the tank to pump hose disconnects, get plyers or summit and squeeze the battery terminal wire tightly back onto the terminal.

Actually, guys - I'm a thick Geordie git (as many of you know) - and because I expected the light to go red and stay red until the battery was charged, I assumed because the light was green, that it wasn't charging.

So anyway, I took the backpack outside, filled it with water and turned it on.  Straight away the battery indicator 'jumped' to green and the backpack emptied it's contents.

I then put the backpack onto charge, and the light went straight to red (as I guessed it should since I've just used it), and it's all working great.  Maybe the battery was fully charged when I received the backpack?

Anyway, it looks like - for the money - a good bit of kit.  I just wanted it as back up for my shurflo backpack; which gets a right hammering and is still going strong after about three years!

Thanks for your replies, some of which are still useful, and apologies for bothering you.
