I received a call today to advise me that AVIVA are cancelling my van policy 5 months into my cover because I carry a water tank. They had no problem when they took the money at the start of the policy and I advise them that we were window cleaners.

Sounds a bit odd. If they had a problem with it, I thought they would have noticed much sooner.
I hope you are getting a full pro rata refund on the unused time in the policy. I also hope they are leaving the cover in place for a reasonable period while you are making other arrangements.

If you add water tanks to your vehicle that is classed as modifying.
-
most insurance companies are still not clued up with the reach and wash and carrying water that is prob why, YOU ARE REPONSIBLE TO INFORM THEM OF MODIFICATION
-
I have not modified the van though it is strapped in the same way you would strap in a pallet or other goods if I was a courier
-
INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE SCUM THEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO NOT PAY TELL THEM AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ABOUT THE VAN, TRY TO COVER YOURSELF FROM EVERY ANGLE
