Title: Help with pricing
Post by: darren Jones on May 08, 2010, 02:09:29 pm
The opportunity has arisen for me to clean the upholstery of a double decker bus including ceilings and upholstery of chairs.

Not just one but twenty of the big buggers.

There are roughly 40 seats on each bus and two ceilings

Any one any ideas of what prices i should be quoting.

Thanks
Darren

Not the slightest idea Darren but here's what i might do if I thought it appropriate and could talk to the decision maker in a sensible way. it may also depend upon if this is going to be an ongoing contract.

So, offer to do one bus and charge what you think is a realistic price. Once completed you'll have a better idea of how long it is going to take and how good a job you can achieve. You will then be better placed to work out the true time/cost/profit that will go into the project.

Then negotiate the price for the rest of the fleet. One advantage of doing one bus only is that if you do a good job not only has the fleet operator not spent a lot of money and got a bad job but he will also be confident in the quality of your work and more likely to pay your asking price.

It may also mean you void an expensive mistake/expensive under-charge.

hope that makes sense and that is is helpful.

gonna say £3000.  i was waivering between £2250 at 4 buses a day and £4500 at 2 buses a day, so £3000 and if its the latter then i don't make as much but still a good wage for 10 days work. plus i'm still not fully booked so every holes a goal. ;D

Upholstery on a bus is going to hold an unbelievable amount of soiling and will take ages. Rogers suggestion is the best bet. Easy sell to the owner, gives confidence to both of you re:time and results.
Won't cost you anything to ask. Good luck.

Just a thought how many buses will be free to clean at any time, and  will they have to be cleaned at odd days and times ?  ::) this will neen to be factored in your quotation Regards Hotsteam

Darren,

i clean the carpets of a local bus company. Got talking to the buyer and asked if they get the seats cleaned on a regular basis for the double deckers and asked if i could quote.
His reply shocked me when he said you wont be able to beat the price as one guy does it for £40 per bus :o but he wont use him to do the carpets.

Say's it all really ;)

Regards

Daryl
