After reading on here that they got better results by leafleting an area then go back a few days later to canvas ?
Well I have done this a couple of times lately and I think its backfired on me. I went out on Monday and leafleted a couple of villages near me, one of them most of the windows didn't look as though they had been cleaned in ages, well I've just returned in and I think my leaflet had prompted the windy that done them into action. One lady came to the door and said she had a window cleaner and he had been yesterday, but he hadn't been since January. She wasn't best pleased as she had got that sick of him not coming she done them herself at the weekend.
But I think someone has saw my leaflet and phoned him to say that I am leafleting the area and he has got his backside down to try not to lose out.
Mind you I still picked up 6 new jobs and a couple of gutter cleaning jobs and a conny roof clean, so it wasn't a total loss, but it could have been better.

I get the best results from knocking. Can't see the point in fiddling about leafleting then going back to knock. Too much like double handling. Well done for the results you got though. :)

just leaflet and wait for the calls matey. then leaflet and wait for the calls, then leaflet and wait for the calls, then leaflet and wait for the calls. Catch my drift. I have done that since Jan the 14th, with fantastic results!! knocking takes too long in my opinion. ;D

Thanks, but I realy did have high hopes for this village as it looked for all the world that there wasn't many of the houses had a regular cleaner (I suppose I was Correct). But if he doesn't turn up for a while again I'm sure I'll pick up some from him.just leaflet and wait for the calls matey. then leaflet and wait for the calls, then leaflet and wait for the calls, then leaflet and wait for the calls. If I done that then I wouldn't have the customers I've got. If you get a good return from just leaflets then just imagine what you would get if you knocked doors as well.

I know who this cleaner is but I get the feeling that if he doesn't turn up for prelonged periods again then I will benefit, but I dont want to be too critical of the guy as he may have had a reason, but at the end of the day it's up to the custie to employ which cleaner they want ;)

I tryed knocking, took forever, stood waiting for them to come to the door, not at homes, people just wanting a chat!! you know what i mean. I can do around 150 leaflets an hour and get calls every day without fail.
You have had some good results knocking then? whats your customer base if you dont mind me asking?

I knock the door and then count to 15 (seems about the time that it takes people to get to the door). I know it sounds nutty but if they don't get to the door in fifteen then I leaflet and move on. Brings a bit of system to the whole knocking bit. 20 at the weekend, they're normally in the garden or mincing about in the house somewhere. Can't go to a front door anywhere now without getting the urge to start counting ;D ;D

i can only count to ten. ;) :P :)

You cant beat knocking and speaking to people

those that rely on leaflets are usually frightened to knock doors , knocking is the only way to gain business quickly regards alan

Kentkleen, how many leaflets have you put out?
-
I put out a few leaflets today in a seriously rural area! (I didnt know it existed!) Nice big country houses, with loads of windows, big connys, and no leaded windows! dropped ten leaflets at all the houses up this lane at four ish this afternoon, had six phone calls tonight, from that area asking if i can give them quotes! Guess what im doing tomorrow! So i think that it depends on the areas you drop leaflets has alot to do with there success! ;D

It is an effective marketing practice to drop leaflets at 3 week intervils as the penny takes time to drop for some folk. I have down this in the same area for a year and each time I still get customers.
There is no rite or wrong in marketing as some things will work in one area will not work in another. The trick is to try and find out what works.

I can knock doors and sell no problem, used to cold call selling upvc windows, but believe me i know how sick people get of people knocking, just for the record 243 customers since jan is good going i think, do you??
cheapest is 7.50 so not under selling, thats a good price for a bungalow up here.
regular leafleting is the key. love em 8)

.Murdie, it was probably me who said that's what I do.Get about 2 calls a month if I only drop 1000 leaflets. If I drop then canvass within a couple of days, then the hit rate is Around 25 to 30%. Now before everyone jumps on me, I have soldiers quarters in Germany. There is always some part time or semi pro WC in just about every area we work. So it's a damn site easier to pick up custies and KEEP them if you are regular and do a decent job.
The rest of our work is Kraut and appointment work. The point is, I get much better results from following up.When I leaflet, it says on the leaflet that we will be calling in the near future to see f they are interested.
This CAN wake up the part time zink bucket guys who try to get round asap. They usually fold after a few "NO's" and the field is ours. That's because I follow all the leaflets up. I mark down empty houses and notice then when they get a new tennant, also the "Not in's" and call again asap.
In the end, it's up to you, if leaflets get you more than you are getting from knocking, (Which I doubt ) then just throw leaflets out.

It probably is a good idea because it gets the householder to at least think about if they need a windy or not. Point I was trying to make is in this instance I've probably alerted the iregular cleaner as someone has probably phoned him to see if he had packed it in.
