Post by: cleewindows on May 05, 2010, 07:33:55 pm
just cleaned 6 new custys, all looked good, the 2nd one called me 20 mins later saying dont i shammy the windows dry?
i said no its pure water i leave to dry.
i said why?
she said my windows are smeared.
i said i will come back and sort them out.
she says no dont bother and i dont want them doing again.
i went back to look she says there smeared but they were crystal clear
then said it was a back one
wouldnt let me look.
she said thank you but i dont want them doing again.
i said ok bye!

they were fine i presume she doesnt like the idea of leaving the glass wet? :(

I do a close with 5 houses and I clean 4 out of the five. One of them HATES wfp. Her windows are upvc, as are her doors and they come up spotless every time.

She even said to me "You're the best window cleaner I've ever had but I hate that brush thing!"  ::)

Anyway - she's been a custy for five years now and yesterday she saw me with my gate ladder going into her neighbours and she came out looking all hopeful and said: "Ooooh are you using ladders now?"

"No" says I "I just use it to open (your neighbour's) gate when she's not home."

She literally stamped her foot and said "Oh, I was hoping you'd gone back to doing it the proper way!"

I grinned and asked her why on earth I would do that when if I did I could fall off and/or leave her frames less than gleaming and her glass not so shiny.

She gestured like a poof shutting an up and over garage door and said "I know, I know! I just hate that thing!" pointing to my wfp.

Her hubby just stood behind her rolling his eyes and grinned.

Gotta laff!

never!
how far do you go to keep a winge bag customer. then all the rest want you to do it trad. i had one like this. she just wanted something  moan about. i offered to check and remedy any problem she still moaned, i just left it saying there is no more i can do to make you a happy customer. later the next door customer said she was why they lose window cleaners

Clee, when you first start window cleaning, be prepared to have a far higher than average intake of 'idiots' for new customers.  Don't let it discourage you.  As time goes on and you drop the idiots, you'll be left with a good customer base.

I remember having all sorts of not-so-good customers when I first started, many of whom were really just after a one-off clean.

I have to agree with sgibson,.. I only trad bungalows and even then only the odd one where its faster than WFP. Why should the customer dictate the method, especially when its a method that has inherent risks and in many circumstances is breaking the law?!

I bet some of the custies moaned when they stopped sending young boys up the chimney to clean it and resorted to a brush on a long pole. I wonder how many said "I prefer the real way, can't you send a little child up instead" ::)

It's true though as in the 7 months I've been going I have lost a good few custies, but most of those I have dumped for being bad payers and messers.

got one at the moment Murdie who will not answer the door, owes me £20 for 2 cleans, kids shout 'MUM, WINDOW CLEANER' when I get to the door, ring, ring, KNOCK, phone, shes just taking the mick. Only course of action is to invoice her I think. She's suspended until she pays.

When you take on a customer always write their name and telephone number down.

You then could knock, get no answer, walk round the corner and PHONE the number.  I've done that before.  If you get paid by this woman, I personally wouldn't clean her property again; it won't be worth the future hassle and customers like her will make you leave window cleaning.

A while ago I would've made it my mission to get paid, but now I don't think it's worth the angst, and I'd probably just let it go and mark it down to experience.

I wouldn't bother cleaning them again even if she does pay up, I know it is a real PITA but you have to ask your self how much hassle is it worth to keep going back and forth ?

One of the first customers I ever got turned out to be a waste of time and hassle so I dropped her, she owed me money but I wrote it off, I also do the flat above hers and every time I go to do it I make sure there is suds from the upstairs window run down onto hers  ;D Mind you next time I go I'll be doing the upstairs flat WFP so she will just have to make do with pure water running down the wall and onto her windows ::)

I would guess one would be braking the law if you down window trad and you owned a safer alternate system like WFP.AS far as I understand trad with ladders is fine if you do not have a safer way to clean.

actually i take back what i said earlier about changing YOUR  method to suit a whinger,  basically you set your stall out and then its take it or leave it. iv had a real bellyfull of messers this week, this is my own fault as id been neglecting the "3 strikes-and u -are out rule" ,even though iv got it marker penned inside my baseball cap AND  written on the side of my bucket . probably i should change my business name to "3strikes cleaning" so im constantly reminded of it by  signwriting on my van.
