Title: we,re screwed whatever method we use!
Post by: dazmond on May 03, 2010, 04:03:29 pm
all the talk of strained necks/shoulders/knees etc! ::) ::)

i dont think it matters what method of cleaning trad/wfp.window cleaning will get us in the end!! ::) ::)

im hoping wfp will be a bit easier and more profitable though after a few months.been trad 16 years and i do have a bit of a niggly right knee at times!does having the slx and using it as your main pole cut down a lot of the strain on shoulders/neck and arms??

I think with any physical job there is going to be wear and tear on the body Daz, my brothers a plumber and his knees and back play up :o... Ive got a couple of mates that are brickies and their knees, backs and arms are knackered!
Office workers even complain of "repetetive strain injury" on their wrists and fingers!

i only get a sore back and neck when i sit on forums for hours with the lap top on the armchair and me sitting at an angle. when i cut out laptop use the pains go ;)

my knees were shot to bits when i left the army but now i am on the windows i get very little problems anymore

when i went wfp i had a sore neck so i stood further back and the problem went. i think there are more without problems than with problems

SLX OR SIMALAR POLE IS A DEFO,

WE ARE SCREWED EITHER WAY dAZ YOU ARE RIGHT, SOME SAY THEY DONT FEEL ANYTHING, i CAN WEIGHT TILL THERE HAVE DONE IT YEARS, sry for shouting.
every window cleaner that I know that has been doing it years has some sort of problem due to window cleaning be it achey legs, knackered knees, done in back ect.

Are job is labour intensive are bodies are not made for this job other wise we would grow padded knees, better joints and finger skin that did not blister and soak in dirt  ;D

Window ckleaning is a means to an end, it is not a life style thing to me it is a job that pays what I need it to to get me for now where I want to go.

Just going to get some more pain killer  :(

I found the SLX very good for this.  After a year of WFPing with a 24ft ali pole as my main pole, I started to suffer on my right shoulder and left elbow (I'm left handed).  I switched to the SLX and it went away after a while.  Maybe it would have gone anyway - maybe not.

I only started having my problems after I near on killed myself in a head on car crash.
I am glad I was tough enough as I should have been paralised neck down and drinking from a straw, over 2 years physio, I still work more than most able bodied poeple  ;) these pains are annoying big time, knee is from trad cleaning, I know so many that have this problem it is untrue.

How is your beer money window cleaning going these days anyway, do you now work more than 3 hours a day  :P

last week i met an old fella high on a ladder painting his seafront house. he has had both knees replaced and recommends you have it done oNLY  when its true agony. his first new knee didnt settle in right and he had to return to hospital ,be hooked up to a hospital machine that worked his leg up n down for a solid 48hours non stop . this "bedded in " the new joint.

Maybe that's the root of your problem Ian, perhaps you should listen to your body?

I am trying Dave, I even took a few days off last week to try and rest, no such luck though.

Will be booked in sometime next week to be stapped prodded and twisted and clicked, see now that works

There is also an even lighter alternative to the SLX - Modular - either the S2 or fishing poles. The SLX is a brilliant pole but not as light as the fishing poles. Also changing your leading hand could help.

Daz i know you want to just work on your own terms but you should start thinking of employing for when them knees give in  ;)

danny im gonna go wfp instead!im sure the ladder climbing is making my knee worse plus the climbing on roofs etc.defo not interested in employing!

i employ the exact opp of your attitude to work.i price new work higher on a longer clean frequency than try to cram in lots of cheap houses in a day!(i do still have lots of very compact work thats pretty cheap though!i call this my "bread and butter" work!!) ;) ;D ;D

by the time ive done 6 months wfp i reckon the extra work done would be like employing a lad but with no wages to pay!! ;) :D :D
