I've been out in the peeing rain this morning and done a £95 whitework clean plus a quick once over the windows as it's impossible to clean the other stuff without messing up the windows. The existing (trad) window cleaner got me this one and I get the call about once every 15 - 18 months. It sounds a lot for such work but it's worth every penny because there are some very tricky angles. I wouldn't even attempt it without a lightweight carbon pole. The owner did drop a hint last time about me taking on the window cleaning too but I value the friendship with the other cleaner. How could I do that to a guy who has gradually put work my way worth about £2.5K per year? Even if he wasn't a friend, I do have scruples :)
I haven't been out there much to get new work recently because a lot of it seems to be coming to me of late. I think that tends to happen more the longer you've been around - even from within the trade.
My business seems to be going in a very different direction to what I once intended. Nothing wrong with that because this way works too.
The only thing I would try to ensure is that if I lost all the work from one particular source, that it wouldn't hurt too bad financially. My rule of thumb would be no more than about 15% from any individual source. That's about the maximum I think.
